hi

Looking for any advice

I suffer with AF / tachycardia and asthma

The last 3 years my breathing has been heavy walking upstairs / inclines and prior to medication for high heart rate I was breathless more often than not and very often sat next to a fan all night as I felt my oxygen was getting into my body and some days

I have had an Echo /CT scan/2lung X-rays / Spirometer / peak flow

All ok not great but low normal mostly

Yet I am still breathless doing basic tasks .

any ideas as I’m at a loss to know what it is

It’s better now and doesn’t just start for no reason but mild exercise does set it off again although controlled

Thank you

I'm no expert, but I would say, Do the exercise and then have a little rest until your puff comes back. Good luck.

It’s frustrating when you have a few jobs to do and end up sat firm every 10 mins but I get your point

I know. It gets on my nerves too but make peace with it. AF can do that to you and it's best to plan for being breathless and working around it.

Would your GP consider sending you to Pulmonary Rehab?

I know it's frustrating. Worse still if the 10 minute rest turns into a one and a half hours' sleep. I think all we can do is plod on and be thankful we can still do anything.

I know the feeling, I have Aspergillosis, emphysema, lung scarring and a leaky heart valve so almost anything has me breathless. I gave up trying to walk any distance so use a mobility scooter, I have a stair lift and any practical aids I can think of that work. I learnt diaphragm breathing on a pulmonary rehab course along with tips such as “ blow before you go”. I accept that most tasks are going to make me breathless so I do a bit, stop get my breath back then do another bit, things take longer but still get done. Breathlessness can be caused by numerous different factors, lung disease, lung scarring, anxiety etc. my current treatment are preventer and reliever inhalers and Oramorph (low dose)

I've asked my doctor and nurse about this and I just can't get an answer off them. It's so bloody annoying 🙄 I have googled it, looked on various different sites but still have no answer. If you get an answer please share it. 🙏 😉

One of best tips I was given by respiratory physio was move Yr goalposts and SLOW down.our expectations of ourselves can hinder us.Have a read up on " controlled breathing" techniques - pursed lips breathing is really helpful. Practise it frequently so when U need it to do whatever,it'll b natural to use it - going upstairs, walking etc
