Hi everyone I wonder if anyone can help I came out of hospital two weeks ago and now on home oxygen. It is set at half a litre but I am still getting out of breath when I walk. Have been told it cannot be turned up as I am borderline for carbon dioxide has anyone got any advice that may help me I am so disappointed as I expected a better quality of life but I am just the same before the oxygen thank you Pauline
Breathing : Hi everyone I wonder if... - Lung Conditions C...
Breathing
Good morning to you today chalky.
You just got out for a bit from hospital, I believe it will take a bit longer for you to get better again. Think about you have not your normal routine for a bit, it can take time to get used to your normal routine again. When I was in hospital it took me over a month that I say I am to normal again after a bad infection with COPD and asthma. Is the first time that you are on oxygen?
I would definitely get in touch with my doctor again to discuss this further.
I hope that you feeling a bit better soon again, but take it slow, walk around in your house or in the garden if you have one, just a bit more exercise to improve your breathing again.
You will get better again 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Hi thank for replying yes I haven’t been on oxygen before so it’s all new but like I said I am disappointed that my breathing isn’t any better with oxygen. To try and get a doctor at the moment is pretty slim with this virus so I will have to see how I go xxxx
Hi 😉 so do you have to use the oxygen? Because I am new to oxygen myself, got it last year before Xmas. I had some test done that it will help me sometimes, but not every day.
I use it when I need it. So of course I do push myself because I don't really want to take the oxygen, don't want to be depended on it. But if I feel that I struggle with walking outside then I take it with me.
I do have sometimes weeks without it, before I use it again.
How is it when you don't take it for a bit? ( Only if you allowed to do so, if not don't do it)
Because you didn't used oxygen before.
Just call your GP surgery there should give you some help over the phone, or contact the oxygen nurse in hospital to have a chat. I can contact mine , sure I don't get a response straight ahead but she calls back same day or next day to discuss problems I have.
Please take care of yourself ❤️❤️❤️
Perhaps you could ring the GPand ask if someone can talk to you about problems you are having with your home oxygen.or perhaps the oxygen nurse as suggested by MELNEL.
I had a phone consultation with my GP yesterday.i had requested to speak to him,if possible,as I have 3 conditions, which saves time. All the others are quite new,so have to waste time explaining.
We covered a lot of ground,he booked me in for a blood test in the afternoon.
Phone consults are not ideal, but I prefer them to seeing a dr,who has potentially seen someone with Covid.
Chalky,it’s not been long since you got out of hospital.getting used to oxygen must be difficult.
Perhaps it would be easier to ring the oxygen nurse and leave a message.that gives you time to write your queries down.i always forget something if it’s not written down.
I hop things get better for you.
Chalky.you will probably be wasting your time with the GP,they know little about the application of oxygen in patients and you would best be talking to the respiratory nurse who prescribed it as she will have far more knowledge on the subject.
Best wishes Ski's and Scruff's x
I REALLY wish it was explained what oxygen is for before it is prescribed.
Oxygen is used to protect organs in the blood and NOT to help with breathlessness.
When a person has low SATS either on exercise or at all times they may be prescribed oxygen. Like I say won’t help breathing.
MELNEL - you really should use oxygen as prescribed/recommended. Again is too protect organs. You wouldn’t not use other meds prescribed just because you feel well on them!
I never knew that I thought oxygen helped with breathing so I know now what is a bronchodilator as I have never heard of it I am on Trimbow inhaler twice a day and a nebuliser 3 times a day thank you for your valuable advice
I would echo what Bevvy indicates also, check in with respiratory nurse at the hospital or GP surgery to discuss perhaps a bronchodilator inhaler that will help you breathe easier.
As Melnel indicates having just come out of hospital you will be needing more time to recover and you may find as you do, breathing does become easier.
Do always check in with GP if your symptoms are getting worse incase you may need further meds.
Hope you are feeling better soon.
Take good care.
I'm also a C02 Retainer, high Carbon Dioxide, I was prescribed 16 hour daily @1ltr (3 ltrs Exercise or Walking). I am aware that 02 has to oxygate the other Organs. Been on 02 for 5 years now. Still here With my Life saver. I am awaiting the oxygen Nurses to visit me to do Blood Gases and measure the C02 level. Keep Breathing that pure air, hope your feeling Better now. C. XXX
Hi Hacienda I am feeling better my breathing has improved to what it was, so I’m pleased. I have the oxygen on all night and then periods during the day I try to keep active as much as I can which has helped. I am on 1/2 a litre of oxygen. Glad you are having benefits from it so lovely to read your reply thank you xxx Pauline
