Having recently been in hospital with a terrible infection. My Dr has since been treating me with zindolin 500mg as my culture indicated psudemonas bacteria
Does any one have info reģarding this bacteria in bronchectasis patients. It's been one week and still not feeling good my lungs are full of mucus and feet starting to hurt.

Hello Cark. ...,
Zindolin is another name for ciprofloxacllin (cipro to us). It is the only really effective oral antibiotic against pseudomonas. Those of us with bronchiectasis take 750mg twice per day for 14 days. Some cannot tolerate this drug and then a session of IV meropenem or colomycin is indicated to knock the bug on the head. Nebulised colomycin, tobramycin or ceftazidime can then be used to keep the numbers down. Once colonised with pseudomonas it is always lurking in there, even if numbers are too low to count on a petrie dish. There are quite a few of us who live with pseudo (me since 1986). The idea is to keep the numbers low enough to lead a normal life. I hope that helped.
Good luck. I have been dodging having IV for some time. I have just had a nasty virus which set off my bronch. Now nine days into cipro and hopefully will dodge IV again. Don’t forget than when you have an exacerbation you have to work extra hard to get as much gunk out of your lungs as possible.
Have you been trying postural drainage. ie letting gravity help with the drainage....
And 750mg cipro twice daily for 14 days!
Unlike Little Pom, I can't take Cipro as it causes me to have Tendonitis. So I have 14 days in hospital on IV Taxocin or Meropenham. I was first colonized in 2012 and had about 3 years in and out of hospital. But for three years I've been pretty stable, even though I know it will always be lurking. As LP says, you can lead a normalish life with Pseudo.
Hello I have bronchiectasis and had IV tazocin for pseudomonas and it massively improved my symptoms. I really hope the oral antibiotics make you feel better soon. Such a horrible bug, made me feel so poorly. Take care.
It’s tough but keep your spirits up, hopefully they can treat some of your symptoms. Are you able to bring up your sputum? If not, maybe they can help you with chest physio? Take care of yourself and fingers crossed this antibiotic helps you.
Hi Carkaisabellacolin I am the same Bronchiectasis with psudemonas and I also take ciprofloxacin when I get an exacerbation. I can only tolerate 500mg twice a day. It’s a horrible bug but the drug does help and I find it gives me a few months feeling better. Or should I say as best as we can be. I do hope you will start to feel better soon and be able to go back to a less gunky free breathing.
Wish you all the best Carkaisabellacolin and hope you get better soon. Make sure your daily intake of vitd / k2 mk7 and magnesium are kept going as I believe this helps your body to fight off these infections quicker as well as plenty of water to help with daily lung clearance x
