I was informed by an immunologist that the constant HI infections I had were not due to the type B, which kids are vaccinated for, but are NON type.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

He wasn’t convinced about the vaccine for non type but I have heard of many folks who have had it and felt things had improved.

Just Google it . Haemophilus influenzae . I used to get it all the time and was told I was colonised. Avoid under 5s as they carry it in their respiratory systems apparently. Once my under 5s were over 5 I was much better!

Yes I've read up on it to ,I understood that children are vaccinated against it theses day since 1992 ,I have child minded my grandchildren over the past ten years ,I did notice every time they had a sniffle I would end up with chest infection ,if I'm well I only have my youngest four year old now ,funny thing again if she has sniffle I get infection ,I'm wondering if there vaccination protects them from getting really ill but still carry the hib bacteria ,if you know what I mean ,thank you for your answer Ginty

Probably something to do with us being more vulnerable to infection and kids not. athey don't have to be ill to pass it to us. A long time ago I looked into why I couldn't get vaccinated and if I remember correctly it's something to do with gram negative and gram positive haemophilus . They can only vaccinate for one type. Presumably the positive. This could be a load of rubbish I have just written as my memory seems to fail me these days!

I've read somewhere that they don't give us vaccination because of the different strains

Hi Alice, I have Bronchiectasis and this is the bacteria that was found in my sputum sample a few months ago. I was given 500mg Ampicillin to be taken four times a day for two weeks and it really seemed to help clear things up......for a while at least. Might be worth a try, good luck with everything.

Gp treats me with doxycycline and prednisone, it goes away for few weeks then returns ,I did ask him to change the antibiotic ,he says that my sputum results always says treat with doxycycline ,I've had box upon box of them now and in the past ,I'm wondering if I'm getting immune to them thank ian

The first thing I was given was doxycycline and it didn't seem to have much effect. After my second sputum test they suggested Ampicillin and as I say it seemed to work much better....

Definitely going to ask gp to try different antibiotics
