Hi, I used to work in a practice with a hypnotherapist, she had good results with her 'quit smoking' patients.

There's Paul Mcenna too, he has books and CDs. Also a book by Alan Carr (hope I've recalled the name correctly). My son used his book with success.

Hi there is a very good and supportive quit smoking site on here so why not have a look?

healthunlocked.com/quitsupport

With their help I managed to give up for 17 months using patches and the little white inhalator, but unfortunately relapsed and am back smoking again. I am going to try again very soon though. Good luck. x

Hypnotherapy is much undervalued due to the ridiculous stage acts that used to be popular years ago. So much so that it became difficult for people to take the matter seriously. Since to be successful it requires the cooperation of the subject for it to be effective that was a major setback. You sound to be pretty desperate so I think hypnotherapy could help you to overcome your problem, but don't expect it to happen without some effort on your part.

I have also tryed vaping but cant get on with it I cough all the time and my lungs feel like there gonna explode!! I have spoken to a hypnosis and she sounds good with good reviews I think I will try her and you know results..I am hoping she can get in my head and help me stop .

'Get in your head and help you' is the right attitude to have. I think you are already part way there. 😉

Hi Madonna, I’ve had hypnotherapy for IBS and I believe it has good results re pain and smoking cesation. Please make sure your hynotherapist was trained at the British Society for Clinical and Academic Hypnosis. This means they are either working or retired with a background as clinicians, dentists or psychologists.

Good luck.

Cx

Hi, after my diagnosis, I stopped smoking using patches and gum, I had an appointment booked for hypnotherapy three weeks after. I used to climb up wall for my nicotine fix, then I had hypnotherapy and I haven’t even thought about it. That was 5 months ago - best of luck you can do it 💖

Mine was only an hour session, first half hour was talking about wanting to give up and explaining about concious & sub concious parts of the brain

I tried hypnotherapy and spent a lot of money. It did not work. I gradually cut down then used patches and changed routine. The morning cigarette was the hardest to give up took a year and half. Don't feel bad if you fail first time its not easy it took 5 attempts over ten years for me. I have been smoke free 6 years and the maximum I smoked was ten a day

I was very lucky as when I was diagnosed with severe COPD 10yrs ago I had a new granddaughter just a year old. I had a coughing fit whilst out and got really scared as couldn't breathe. I decided there and then not to smoke another cigarette and swore on my granddaughters life. I never smoked again and the benefits are so worth it. My lung function increased and 10 yrs on I am still no worse. My Granddaughter started Comprehensive school 2 weeks ago as now she is 11yrs old and my next goal is seeing her all dressed up for her Prom. My Grandson is 28yrs old so I have been fortunate to see him succeed. I am now 75yrs old and know I would not be still here had I not given up smoking please stop it just takes will power and one day at a time. I have never looked back so hopefully you will be the same.x Good Luck x Sheila

I am the same, was in a coma for 8-9 days in icu and obviously not smoking, then on a ward and not smoking until the day before I was discharged as an outpatient. In icu I wasn't bothered at all about smoking, to unwell, but felt like something was missing, like I needed something but didn't know what it was, the same when moved onto respiritary ward, didn't smoke at all until day before discharged as became so stressed from a dementia patient in the bed next to me who screamed, cackled and laughed out loud evvily like something from the darkest depths of hell, it scared me after having been in the coma like the devil was coming for me, it was none stop, she woke us all up on the ward, we were all on edge and talking about things to put a permanent stop to her. We were becoming potential murderers. Even the nurses were stressed telling her to shut up as she was doing it on purpose for attention. I had to wear earplugs and a set of headphones to try and sleep, but could still hear her. I cracked and went whilst wired up to a portable cardiac monitor in my dressing gown pocket and left the ward sending the monitor off beeping like crazy once I got outside. I was done in, frazzled and it was the only way I could calm my nerves. I didn't know then it was the day before my discharge. I went all that time from the 17th of Jan up until the 1st of Feb without smoking, and most probably wouldn't ever have smoked at all had it not been for that crazy insane woman from hell its self that drove me to distraction and all of us almost smothering her in the night with a pillow, we had all almost lost our minds because of ill health, constant noise from the woman from hell, and sleep deprivation because of her too! So now I'm smoking again, I actually enjoy smoking, but can also go without it for many hours, but when I want one, I can't focus on anything, can't think, feel ill, feel like a druggy needing it's fix, and have wondered about seeing a hypnotist also, a lot of money, but if it helps as nothing else helps me at all, not patches, gum, vaping makes me sick and gives me horrendous headaches, nothing works, but do want to stop as know I can go without, it's getting over that intense need for a smoke in my brain that builds up and builds up and nothing else other than having a proper smoke will stop it. It's crazy, that desire could actually lead me to hitting somebody or breaking something as I get so wound up from it. Yet if I have cigarettes in the house, I'm barely interested in them, and when I have none in the house, that's when I get into the mental state mentioned.

Please let me know if you go, and how you got on. Can I ask which part of the country you are in? As assuming UK.

Best of luck. x

My previous husband used acupuncture to help him give up about the same time as I did (I used cutting down and turning my mind against it by looking at photos of damage done by smoking). He had a pin in the cartilage of his ear which he could twiddle whenever he had a craving, and it seemed to work. A pity he started smoking again a few years later as it caused him a lot of problems in the end.

Hi Madonna, I have never tried hypnotherapy but I'm told it works. I was a smoker for 25 years, I quit 3 years ago. I was a very heavy smoker. I used e cigs to quit. And still use them from time to time. I have copd now through smoking all those years. I do regret it, but what's done is done. Take care sweet. 🌹👍

Honestly I got so scared with the coughing and people staring at me. I couldn't breathe. Who would want to live like that when all it took to improve my quality of life was stop smoking. it took a couple of weeks and my cough disappeared. I very rarely cough now only if I get a chest infection and those are quite rare maybe 2 a year. I suppose it's easy to tell someone as we are all different but I do believe will power is the best way and wanting a better quality of life. X Sheila
