Hi Sparkster, what a shame your relationship had to end. Nicotine is a very powerful drug. It's good you are away from it. Do you mean your oxygen saturation is between 85 and 90? Are you seeing a consultant? If so, you could ask about it. As to harm, the answer is not a simple one as the harm takes place over time. Most doctors agree that we need supplemental oxygen if our saturation regularly falls below 88.
Hello sparkster, I think you need to be assessed for oxygen possibly. Your organs can suffer damage if they are deprived of oxygen.
Very sorry your partner wouldn't stop smoking, selfish or foolish or both, was it twelve years passive smoking or did you use to smoke too?
Your emotions can effect your breathing, if you are anxious you shallow breathe, watch how your oxygen levels rise when you breathe correctly. I hope you can resolve your differences and she seeks professional help in stopping smoking and you both stay alive a long time 😃 huff x
Didn't she go outside to smoke?
That's a shame. But good that you're away from secondhand smoke.
Can you ask your medics to put you on the PR (Pulmonary Rehabilitation) course?
It would really help you to learn ways to build up strength & recover a bit of that lung function. People CAN improve with the right help and determination.
Wishing you well & good luck. Peege
I have to give up going to the casino....and I even do good there, but the smoky environment is not worth the money. I have to find a new profitable hobby.
You don't live in UK then...
I used to play poker in a number of casino's....In London and it must be over 10 years since it was banned.
Anyway sorry about your break up...but to be honest it's probably about 99.9% of heavy smokers that would give up on their relationship rather then give up on smoking. ..even people with copd still can't stop smoking.
It just happens I have come a long way on the wrong road before I could understand them and me.
Good luck and welcome.
Andy.
The USA Surgeon General here years ago said that nicotine was more addictive than heroin! I believe that since my ex of years ago could get off the drug of heroin but not the cigs!
Nicotine is by far the most addictive and that is a well known fact.
You won't find a better site if your looking for genuine help...you would have already realised that people on this forum are....
Helpful.
Kind regards.
Andy.
Sad, but necessary for your own health, off course after only 10 weeks, who knows she might just stop, sometimes absence can make the heart fonder, i do hope so in your case,
Oxygen saturation level under 88 in copd patients, often requires oxygen, if this is the case, it could well be harming you, i,e heart vital organs etc. best see a consultant to advise,
good luck
jimmy
Hello sparkster
I should imagine you are sad...leaving your partner of 12 years seems to be a bit drastic to me.
Could you not have come to some sort of compromise.
You cannot isolate yourself from all the harmful pollutants in this world unless you fancy becoming a hermit in the middle of nowhere.
I know my reply is a bit controversial, but I do think our emotions have an effect on our physical well being.

cagecanada.homestead.com/In... I hope the break-up was due to a lot more than your fear of secon-hand smoke. Please avoid traffic, bonfires and barbecues too!
First of all sympathies to you sparkster...I hope that you can find a way forward that is right for you & your partner.
I aren't very convinced by that article I have to say! It's clearly promoted by an anti-interventionist/libertarian group who have a pre-disposition to arguing that all Government intervention is bad & generally uses pseudo-science or carefully selected studies to make the point.
Speaking from my own personal study......involving me......without any doubt whatsoever passive smoking is horrendous & causes me no end of trouble. I can't even walk behind someone smoking in the street without I start to cough & get out of breath. So I can understand & empathise with sparkster's difficulty without either condoning or condemning the solution he has chosen.
Yes....I have to keep car windows up!
This is so sad you have lost your partner over this could she not smoke outside
Thank you all for your support. It's great to know there's friends out there. Consultant has signed me up for pulmanory rehab. and even some phsycological help (God save the NHS eh!?)
10 weeks is not a long time and oxygen of 85 is too low so i hope you addressed that..........very confused about leaving your wife ...are you saying you left because of her smoking
