Sats reading 94-118 there is no reason for heart rate to be high as wheelchair bound and no excersise, has any one got any ideas as to why heart is over working.

It could be an affect of your medications which can cause your pulse to race or many other reasons. The safest advice would be to see your GP. You may need further tests to find the cause.

It could be that with lung disease your heart has to work harder to cope with breathing? x

Yes, I agree with hypercat54! I have copd and heart issues. My pulse has always been high! I am a hyper person! But I have noticed when my lungs are having a hard time breathing, my stats go up to compensate. JANET127

I also agree with hypercat54. My heart rate, at rest, has been around 120bpm for the last two years. Simply walking it goes up to 145bpm, just having a bath it is also 145bpm.

I agree with the others I'm also undergoing a rapid referral to chest pain and cardiology department. I have heard in the past lung problems can for some have an impact on the heart as it has to work that much harder to get oxygenated blood around the body to the other organs.

Your doctor and or specialist would be the best ones to advise you and check things out if needed.

Sorry I can't be of much help to you but if something is causing you concern it's best to raise it with the doctors.

Hope all goes well with you.

Hello Glasgow45 .

Everyone has given some very good pointers here. I would just say although having poorly lungs can definitely force your heart to work hard, but there are other reasons why your heart rate could be so fast. In any case, having it racing all the time is very uncomfortable and taxing on your heart. It would be best to bring this up with your doctor and not leave anything to chance.

Best wishes,

Cas xx🍀

We all have different heart rates and for different reasons but i believe it is well worth getting this elevated level checked out as not everything is related to our lung conditions,i am presently resting.on air and not breathless with sats at 87 and a pulse rate of 77 which is about normal for me but my o2 level will rise fairly quickly to the low 90's.

Best wishes Ski's and a sleeping and unmeasured Scruff's x

Yes, we all have different normal heart rates. My daughter who is young and healthy, normally has a resting rate of 100bpm. I have no idea what mine used to be, only since being diagnosed.

Hi,I also have some lung problem and high heart rate. I think the heart is working faster to provide enough oxygen as your lung isn't 100%?? I'm just thinking maybe...that's why lung problems and high heart rate is related.

If you find out the exact cause let us know please :)

When I attended a PR course recently, and the physio took our SATS at the beginning of a class, if anyone had a very high pulse she always asked

“ have you drunk any water yet today?”

I followed her advice and when I did there was a noticeable drop in mine,

which can be high if I am feeling anxious.

Thoughts anyone?

I have read the same thing about making sure we drink enough water to keep our hearts healthy. Im sure it must play a part x
