I have been having exacerbation of emphysema for the past three weeks or so and now have been put on nebulisers 4 times daily. Before the nebulisers and still now i am experiencing low pulse rate which has dropped to as low as 26 and the oxygen levels drop also to 70s or low 80s when i stand in one position for too long mainly in the morning when washing etc. this corrects itself as soon as i sit down for a short while. Gp couldnt shed any light on whats going on just wondered if any one on here had this experience as dr google is not helping.x

Good Morning soul-123

So sorry to hear you are experiencing difficulties are this time. I would press your doctor for a referral back to the respiratory consultant if things do not improve over the next few weeks.

With taking your own oxygen levels the doc or consultant would want to check those on their own test equipment to be sure. You know that the pulse oximeters we use ourselves can be affected by certain things which may produce an inaccurate reading WHO * organisation has a pdf download about this.

What are your other symptoms? Others may well be able to help.

*World Health Organisation.

If you feel really unwell, you are going blue your oximeter consistently shows very low heart rate and oxygen levels phone either 111

or

999 service (UK) and let the paramedics decide.

Take good care

Hi. This possible has nothing to do with anything but I thought I’d better mention it.

My husband and my father have had periods where there heart rate has dropped, momentarily through the day. ECG showed heart block in both cases and they both had pacemakers fitted.

Thanks for your reply im beginning to think i probabley need a 24 hr ecg monitor as by the time i would have called a ambulance it would have corrected itself well thats what i hope.

That’s how my husband’s heart block was discovered. Neither he or my dad had blackouts which are associated with the need for a pacemaker. My husband had his fitted at the hospital, and my dad has his fitted at the GP surgery.

Where and how are you taking your pulse? Do not take the pulse oximeter reading as true. The most reliable are taken from the side of neck or groin.

Your pulse rates drops when you are standing? Usually that is when it should go up. My brother had his drop into the 30s but it was a side effect of the medications he was on. They changed his medication and it has gone back to normal.
