Pseudomonus showing in sputum results again plus Moroxella.

Wondered if anyone has had both these bugs showing together in sputum results. Prescribed two different antibiotics ciprofloxacin and doxycycline for 2 weeks . Consultant thinks I would be best to have IV in hospital for 2 weeks for Pseudomonus. I have had really bad chest with a lots of nasty mucus and had lots of bronchial spasms feeling very breathless wheezing tight chest. Thanks xx

Not able to check but I'm pretty sure that British Thoracic Society guidelines (for bronchiectasis anyway) recommend hospital IV treatment for second or difficult infection with pseudomonas - or at least suggests the specialist should consider that approach

Thank you. 😊 xx

Yes, it sounds as though 2 weeks of IV is the best idea as oral abs not working for you. My con now gives 2 abs together in the IV. ( colomycin and meropenem suggested for me). I hope that you have it and that you soon feel better. I also hope that you are working very hard to get the stuff out of your lungs.

Thank you so much. 💞 xxx

Hi Majt, I’m from the Uk & not heard off some of the meds you mentioned except doxycycline which was prescribed when amoxicillin & prednisone steroids didn’t work. I've had Pleurisy 3 times now, the first two times the Amoxicillin worked but a new doctor refused me an emergency pack saying I didn’t have copd as couldn’t see it on my records 😉 so ended up in A & E as they wanted to keep me in & put my on I V. Stupidity I didn’t stay & was put on a stronger strength of doxycycline which to my relief worked . I really scared of hospitals but will go if absolutely necessary. My daughter has just bought me a humidifier so might be some help if you got one too. I’m sorry I’ve gone on a little bit I meant to reply yesterday. Stay positive & be well my friend 😀

Hello k4ttt, I have bronchiectasis and asthma do you mean ciprofloxacin I'm prescribed this antibiotic for Pseudomonus and if this doesn't help, then I have to go in hospital for 2weeks iv. I am given the doxycycline for moraxella that's a new one I have just got. I am pleased the antibiotics worked for you. I have a humidifier, thank you for your good wishes. Hope this has helped you. take care.😀x

I've just had 2 weeks IV antibiotics for moraxella catarrhalis and pseudonoma as am intolerant to cipro ...feeling a lot better.Hope you get sorted soon xx

in reply toTinker26

Thank you for your reply. I'm intolerant to a lot of antibiotics including nebulize colomycin for Pseudomonas. I am ok up to now with ciprofloxacin. Can I ask do you nebulize a antibiotic, have you just been diagnosed with these bugs. I am pleased you are feeling a lot better. Good luck. 💕 x

I am fairly new to bronchiectasis, diagnosed 3 years ago ,no bugs then..

Was sent to Wythenshaw hospital for possible aspergillosis but came back negative . Wythenshaw picked up moraxella and haemophilus bugs and last 8 sputum samples came back the same.Upto now I have only had oral antibiotics but they have proven unsuccessful.Just waiting to see consultant for next steps x

in reply toTinker26

Thank you for your reply, I would just like to say I did great with the nebulizer colomycin, for a good while it kept me clear of pseudo but then I started with a reaction. A lot of people do well on this antibiotic. 💕 x

Thanks Majt , just a bit frightened at the progression of this illness x

At the moment I'm on 2 antibiotics for these bugs but the consultant wants me in for iv. It sounds that your consultant is looking after you. Take care xx
