I have a 6MW every six months, after a PFT. It is somewhat useless as the physiologist stops it after a couple of minutes because my heart rate is too high.
Hi
I do one annually as part of my oxygen review, never do the full six minutes, usually 3/4 minute.
The six minute walk test is a recognise assessment test for mobility issues.
You don’t always have to complete six minutes. The data is often shared to gauge the value of different treatments ands scenarios.
I would love to do a 6 min walk test as i believe it would be a far better way of judging my oxygen requirements and my general standard of lung related health than doing the shuttle walk tests in tune with the beep machine which is more suited to athletes and those wishing to monitor activity in short bursts, nobody walks like that in real life.
Hola Carino, I have done the 6 minute walk many times whilst waiting for Transplant. I am due to do another one along with The Echocardiogram as soon as my Appointment comes through. They measure the Mts walked to the exchange of Oxygen for the 6 minutes, My last walk was 280 mts to a drop of oxygen at 78/84, Previous one was Better at 320 mts to 84/87, That is how it was explained to me. I think this next time it will be less on all Readings. Besos Carino. xxxx
Hola mi querida, yes i know how it all works, the shuttle walk is measuring all the same stuff but you gradually increase the pace over 12 circuits until it is almost impossible to keep up on the higher levels, even in my fit and healthy Army days i struggled with it but could yomp for 5 miles with a huge rucksack and weapon on my back without a problem, mind you that was too many years ago to think about.

I used to do one every six months with gradually reducing distances, my last was about 200. I hated them, my oxygen would drop to the low 70's very quickly.
I'm excused walk tests now, I'd do well to reach the other cone. Quite pleased really
I haven't had one since I completed Pulmonary Rehab in 2015.
Greetings
:). I think I have to hold the record... To get my oxygen supply right, I've done eight six-minute walks in the last three weeks. Now I'm on 8 lpm ambulatory. Woo-hoo!

Mine is a yearly review - and in spite of everything I always manage the full six minutes! No one expects me to do this but I am so competitive I regard it as a challenge! I recently had double pneumonia so don't expect to achieve my goal this year. I also had a relapse whilst in hospital and my poor family were called into the hospital. I have to keep my oxygen levels between 89 - 94% something to do with CO2 .
Only when I’m being assessed for re hab. Other than that twice a year when I’m having my blood gas’s for oxygen levels, I am on ambulatory oxygen.
iam on ambulatory oxygen and have been from 2017 rang them today and ask if i need a review and they said yes but had forgot i been on it that long book me in july
