Any tips to pass a 6 min walk test? I failed at Kaiser's Respertory Tharapist Test he said I was too bad??

Sorry should have inserted this. This was Kaiser's test for me to receive a portable oxygen concentrator. They refused me , After my Pulmanary Doctor said I should have one? I have home Oxygen concentrator now but I want to get a portable?

I didn’t think there was such a thing as “failure” for 6MW. It is a patient-led test and is about what the patient can manage. It should be done regularly, at the same time of day, under the same circumstances. A one-off 6MW is not really helpful. What happened with you?

Hi

The six minute walk test, is not a pass or fail. It’s a global test to gauge a persons ability. Often used to gauge progress after surgery or leg injury. Can be used as a walking test before and after pulmonary rehabilitation.

I use it for my annual oxygen review to gauge oxygen desaturation. I don’t actually walk for the full six minutes.

Hi reldong2 .

I'm sorry I don't quite understand.

Do you mean they surmised from your test that you didn't need oxygen?

When you say you failed reldong2, do you mean you were hoping to get oxygen? Like some are saying, there is no pass or fail but I can see that if you wanted oxygen and the test showed you aren't needing it then you might feel you'd failed. But what this will mean is that your oxygen saturation is too high to need oxygen - a good thing!

Are you breathless? Oxygen isnt given for breathlessness but to protect your internal major organs. Tbh doctors dont always know that much about it. If breathlessness is the reason you were referred for the test, then maybe you need a medication review.
