Hi Chalky I had that when I was taking Amoxycillin and doxycycline. They tested my sputum to see which antibiotic worked and was put on that which is much better for me. I have bronchiectasis with pseudomonas so ciprofloxacin is the only one that works for me. If you are taking the correct antibiotic probably further investigation is needed. It is awful when you can’t get over the infection, very draining. Have you had a ct scan done? That might help, ask if you could have one if not had one already. I hope you get sorted soon. X

With COPD it takes time for the lungs to recover from a bad infection. I personally find it takes a number of weeks to feel what I would call normal. If your heart and lung tests are OK then it may be just a matter of giving it more time. As your Doctor taken a CRP blood test to see if there are still any inflammatory processes still going on?

What is a CRP blood test Badbessie I don’t think I have but I had a blood test on Tuesday as the doctor said he wanted to make sure nothing else was going on thank you for your help

C Reactive Protein is done to test for inflammation. It as a range of 4 to 285. For example when I was admitted to hospital with bilateral pneumonia my own was 285. I was very ill. Since then I have had a chest infection my results have been in the range of 100 to 150. My local drop in centre as a machine that does the test there and then and you get the results in minutes.

The indigestion is the worst haven’t eaten for a week until a bit of soup today I have lost a stone in weight but I have always suffered with my digestion any thing sets it off thanks for your help. Hi Pauline, your indigestion could be down to reflux, most of us with lung problems develop this and the medication such as Omerprazole can help. I always take a probiotic if I have had antibiotics to put back the good bacteria in your gut. You could also drink kefir (most supermarkets sell this now) which again will help with your gut health. Take a sputum sample to your doctors and get it tested, otherwise you wont know what infection you have. I think you should also ask for a ct scan. If necessary ask to be seen by the hospital. It took a long time for me to get over an infection and left my sinus's in a mess which I am waiting for an op. If you have a good doctor its not too bad, but think you have to push to get things done and people to listen to you. I read everything up so I have a knowledge of my condition and wont take no for an answer. I do hope that you can get to the bottom of this and feel better soon x

Hi izb1 thank you for your valid advice will act on it.l take lonsaprozale but doesn’t seem to have helped much and although the indegestion has subsided I don’t have an appetite so not very good hoping it comes back soon as not eating much I have lost weight.l have always had problems with my digestion and had the camera down twice not very pleasant hope it doesn’t come to that again thank you again Pauline

Hi Pauline, eat little and often then, perhaps that will help, or have those drinks that act as a food, anything that helps. I had terrible pains in my back which felt like my heart and the doctor said it was reflux, but the surgeon said it was my gall bladder. I have felt alot better since I had that out. Sometimes our gp's are slow to take things further and Im afraid miss the obvious. I do hope you get sorted, keep us updated, best of luck. Irene x

Hi Chalky. Antibiotics kill some good bacteria as well as the bad. Probiotics are a good daily treatment for replacing good bacteria. Seven Seas 'Multibionta' are a good brand, 1 capsule a day.
