I am having breathing exercises from physio at hospital. She listened to my left lung at bottom and said that I've got a lung infection cause she could hear crackling and to ask my gp for antibiotics.
My gp knows I have allergies and it was noted that I can no longer have amoxicillin as I felt unusually faint and dizzy with my last lot. She gave me doxycycline but I told her that I have allergy to it. After persuasion I had it. After tge 4th day of being very unwell and sick with it. I stopped taking it and phoned up. Another gp phoned me to say that she wiuld not be giving me any antibiotics as she didn't know if I would have a reaction to them and tge only way I should have any is to go to the clinic at hospital as an in patient just in case but she was not going to give me anything.
Why couldn't she get me into hospital? It seemed to me that she wasn't interested. Has anyone any ideas what to do. I'm shocked and scared now.

I would be scared and shocked as well. 😑 You said she wanted you in as an "in-patient" but she wasn't willing to admit you? I'm sorry if I misconstrued that. Of course if you go in as an in-patient then they could try other antibiotics and if you have a reaction they would be on hand to help. What I don't understand is why they pushed medication that has already been noted as not suitable for you and you had to suffer through being sick with it. This might be a silly question seeing as it seems to be nigh impossible to easily speak with one's GP at the moment, but would it be possible for you to speak to the GP that you usually have? I'm so sorry you have had to have this awful time. It really is inexcusable. Please let us know how things go for you. xx 🌿
This sounds like a ridiculous situation for you. Perhaps you could contact your GP surgery to complain that you have been refused treatment and ask what you are supposed to do. Can you refer yourself to the hospital clinic? I would get in touch with your physio as well and tell them. I'm sorry that I'm not much help but I haven't come across a situation like this before and can understand how scared you are. I do hope you get this problem sorted out. Wishing you well.
Thanks for replying. My physio has rung my gp too but I haven't spoken to her yet. She probably got the brush off too.I've just registered with new Surgery and will speak to gp today. We shall see. I'm to scared to tell my gp what I think of her thought it was care in community but no.
Hopefully you will get treated properly at your new surgery. I would be scared of complaining too but if it was your old surgery that treated you badly you could lodge a complaint with the CQC, the inspection body who would take the matter very seriously and investigate. I wish you well in getting the help you need.
Hi Soundwell what a terrible situation. I too react to so manny different medications and get scared every time I’m prescribed something different. I also think you should phone the surgery, speak to the practice manager and make an official complaint about being refused treatment. Please let us know how you get on. Barbs x
You must have your sputum checked to find what bug you have, and then be put on the antibiotic that sorts it. This may even be an intravenous AB. So, get a sample sputum into your surgery.
I was on doxycycline but at the last clinical review they put me on azithromycin which seems to be better. I appreciate each one us are different when it comes to health and medication. But you should not have to be an in-patient to get the message across. Try asking for this alternative if all is well then they can prescribe.
Hello soundwell.I'm foxy79 I'm not surprised cause my GP done same they are just cause of the sake of job know most of them best is I'd say get a email of your consultant of broncechtisis clinc email or your consultant when get admitted speak to them and when you need help or get help you go in directly via consultant he or she will put your name waiting list for bed and in few days they will call you for addimission.safer side this way I been doing it for year's know
Hi I can only take doxocycline if I eat with it, have u tried this. It stopped me having "green" sick and poorly? Just a thought x
Hi Soundwell! Have you had problems with any other antibiotics, apart from those two? There are so many different ones your gp could give you, I don’t see why she insists it has to be doxy
I ask because, following lots of reactions, I was referred to the Allergy Unit at the Brompton to establish exactly which antibiotics are safe for me and which not. I’d been experiencing an all-over rash & fainting with quite a few of them. They established that I’m only actually “allergic” to one, and that the rash & fainting were due to urticarial syndrome. This was resolved just by taking antihistamines. So I was wondering if you could ask your consultant to refer you to an Allergy Clinic.
I am surprised that your GP did not get you to have a sputum test or an X-ray or scan to check that you were in need of medication?I have always found over many years that the physios are often the best people to talk to
about problems like this, and can get you seen by a chest consultant. if they feel it is necessary.
I am sorry that you are having problems with the NHS ,but they are very busy currently ,so much so, that when I get a bad problem i have been supplied with my own rescue pack.
I might add I am 86 and they have kept me going through several bad attacks in my time.
Might be that your GP doesn't want you to get involved with the hospital until they have got the Covid problems sorted out.
Appalling treatment. Sounds like they are treating you like a time waster because they don't understand your condition. I have poor reactions to several antibiotics, but can still safely take ABs from other drug families.
