Had to visit hostpital after advice from paramedic , to be told that there was nothing more they could be done for me except carry on with colomycin, salbutomol and oromorph. What I now need advice on concerns my gut, I have no appetite and when I try to eat I feel sick after a few mouthfuls. I am taking a double dose of lanzprozole to no effect. does any one else have this problem? Can it be due to 3 lots of i/v antibiotics (piperacillin and tobramycin) . My fear is the pseudomnas colonisation has spread to my gut, in which case I am in real trouble as it will be permanent !!, which means I shall end up being fed by tube to add to my woes. Anyone else had this gut pfoblem? and what was the cause? any help or advice would be appreciated.

Good morning johnhawk I am sorry to hear your news you’re obviously gutted it must be so upsetting and frightening for you ☹️. I can’t answer any of your questions sorry about that I don’t know what pseumnas colonisation is? Is this a type of lung infection, do you have copd.? Sorry for the questions you don’t need to answer any of them. My heart goes out to you ❤️ With this terrible news, iv actually been unable to eat properly recently it seems if I eat even a small meal I can’t get a breath I suppose it’s part of having copd and the fact that my lungs are larger than normal no matter if I want to finish like my dinner I need to make myself stop ! If I carry on eating until I’m full I suffer terrible for it I need to go to be propped up with a few xtra pillows and take extra meds so I won’t be doing it again after getting the biggest fright of my life gasping for air after eating ,, also my tummy swelling up and going bigger than I imagined it could. John could you not get another opinion or do you trust this drs diagnosis? I would be screaming from the rooftops HELP . I can’t begin to imagine how you actually must feel I’ll be think of you and your family I hope you have great support some of us don’t have this. Youll be in my prayers take care 🙏🙏💔💔

Pseudomonas is a virulent infection that can attack many parts of the body usually attacking your weakest link, in my case the lungs, in certain circumstanes it can be fatal, if it attacks your eyes you will go blind.

Oh I’m sorry to hear you have this it certainly sounds very nasty it must be hard for your poor lungs to fight off , I do hope it’s not spread to anywhere else. Best of luck getting rid of it and thanks for answering my question take care 🌹🌹

Hi not good news is it. Have you thought about trying the build up drinks like Ensure? You just sip those and they are high in calories and have all the nutrients in them? It could be easier than trying to eat. x

As you have had lots of antibiotics I wonder if you need some of that “natural yoghurt treatment “. I’m no expert on it but when I had IV antibiotics in hospital I had terrible stomach for 6 months. Doctor didn’t seem bothered, just tested sample of faeces to eliminate infection, then told me to self medicate to replace good bacteria in digestive tract. I think there is a special yoghurt for it in shops. Someone will know. PosyP

I had the same problem, seems the hospital can't be bothered or don't take you seriously !

Have you tried fortisip drinks got all the vitamins etc you need. Lots of flavours ask your gp for a prescription. Think you can buy in Boots but they are expensive. Try a second opinion you never know.

Have you spoken to your GP?

There are different flavours of drinks sweet/ soup types.

If you are on antibiotics or have been recently you should also be on a good pre and pro-biotic available from a health food shop. The ones kept in the fridge are best and try different brands until you find one that suits you. I like acidophilus, available as a tablet or liquid, but you may be different.
