Increasing copd fev1 results

sansevera profile image
9 Replies

Hi, I'm new to this site and have been diagnosed to have copd. My fev1 test on:

March 2017 44%

January 2018 55%

December 2018 59%

Is it normal for it to rise so? I'm worried that the original diagnoses is sound. Has anyone got any thoughts on this please, I would be grateful.

Hi

Unusual for such an increase, 44@ to 59@.

Are these results the best of three test.

What where the comments from your GP.

Thankyou for responding. I have only just found this out a few days ago by checking my medical record on "Evergreen Life". The tests were the best of 3. I have an appointment with my GP this Friday and was hoping to be better informed, before hand, on what might be happening.

There could be various reasons sansevera. If you were unwell at the time of the March 17 one. Or that your symptoms are better managed by medication now? Especially if you have asthma/copd overlap. Next time you ask your GP/consultant check out with them what might have caused this.

Hi when I was first diagnosed my fev1 was 62%. I then went up to the mid 70's and have stayed there ever since. The nurse said it was probably poorly controlled asthma. Maybe now you are on the right meds is the reason for the increase?

It is common for it to vary by a few points at any given time. x

My FEV1 was 69% for 3 years after diagnosis in 2015. Last year it had improved to 82%, because of all the things I've been doing to improve fitness and lung function. The suggestions of people posting on here have really helped.

My first test was 51% 12 weeks after pneumonia. At this point I must point out that I had given up smoking on diagnosis. I started exercising and six months later I was 57%. My last test was 67%. My consultant said my first test was probably due to my lung not being fully recovered from the pneumonia. Personally I am happy they went up and am not overly worried why.

Hello "Help_61" sorry to hear that. Check out this link below and see if it helps. I have been following the advice since last summer and it might be the reason my fev1 has increased. Let me know if it works for you. ted.com
