Just before Christmas I was admitted to hospital as an emergency with very high temp and struggling to breathe. I have been cared for at GP by Asthma Nurse for many years and about six years ago told I had COPD. This is was my first admission to hospital and frightened me. I had lots of tests and the outcome was a bacterial infection. A heart scan showed a slight problem which I was told was quite common and my GP was informed a follow up scan should be done in 12/18 months. A scan on my lungs showed inflamed nodules but there was no referral to keep a eye on this. I looked this condition up and found that whilst common I some circumstances could become cancerous. At the moment I am waiting for my GP to get a copy of the scale results. Should I be pushing to be referred to specialist.

Yes
Depending on the severity of COPD then a GP might not request a referral if only mild, but you can still request one.
Having had a CT Scan then there would have been indications that any nodules that may be cancerous and have been placed on a "watch and wait" regime, with scans every 6 months. Nodules in lungs are common and are most often they are benign.
You could ask. I definitely would in that situation.
Clearly you have unanswered questions, so go back to your gp., and if he can’t answer them then....you must find someone who can.
Anxiety over this existing condition can never, ever help.
Good wishes.
Do post and let us know how you fare.
You need to clarify with your GP and if he cannot answer all your questions then ask for a specialist. This illness must never be underestimated in its potential severity as I know from bitter experience in delaying getting appropriate treatment.
