BACk IN HOSPITAL AGAIN

Hi everyoneJust to let everyone know that after only just 2weeks of being discharged I find myself back in hospital for the same old story - my oxygen levels dropped dangerously again into the 60s then into the 40s - even though I was attached to my concentrator at 8 litres having gone to the loo

I sat on my bed while i was extrely tired to calm diwn when i was satisfied i coukd turn it to 6 had another rest then turned it to 4 litres

I lay down on my bed & my heart started beating fast i turned it back up to 6 then 8 & still the same

I got my folks to rush me to hospital & just had a few hours in A & E then taken to respiratory unit They took bloods in Resuss withe result that there is no evidence of infection

but ive got to stay in until they are satisfied with everything & can discharge me

Needless to say Im quite upset & so are my folks as its only been 2weeks from the last time i was in.

When i arrived in Resusc they did a blood test 4 lots & results were no evidence of infection so i suppose thats good My specialist told me that its part of the ILD so it will always happen ive got scarring on my lungs

Really sorry chook, it's so unfair all these things we have to put up with. I have copd and their still trying to find medication that works for me, giving me hope the next one I try is the one. Just today went for a stroll and suddenly got shaky, weak and could not catch my breath, and all my partner does is roll his eyes. Really helpful. I hope they get you sorted soon. 😉👍

How awful for you and your family. I agree with some of the others, they should be looking into why this is happening. With me they found I was a retainer, I'm not saying you are, but there could well be some underlying, not immediately obvious, problem. I hope they soon get you home, treated and stable. All the best, xx

Sara_2611 profile image
Sara_2611 in reply toleo60

This is exactly what happened to me a month ago after which I was discharged into the care of a virtual ward team. Although I am now back under GP care it has left me with a lot of apprehension about when it is going to happen again. Hopefully you will soon be home again.

I had the same exprience, at the end was a case of pulmunary hypertension.

Mind you ,is very hard to diagnose and very expensive...therefore the NHS prefers to stick on usual routine (x ray+ steroids+ antibiotics)

Suggestion? Treat yourself with a PRIVATE specialist at least to have a deep examination and diagnosis.

Maricopa profile image

Right heart catheterization may be in order.

pasquino profile image
pasquino in reply toMaricopa

Yes, I know, but it took months on NHS ...in fact I was refferred in march this year and (hopefully) I will have ny catheter on the 9th of august ...but at least going private for the visit saved me a couple of months of waiting only for the specialist`s visit. Not considering that the NHS will do everything they can to convince you that it does not depend fron the heart, therefore they tend to stick to the usual unuseful therapy : steroids, antibiotics and nebulizer.

Sara_2611 profile image
Sara_2611 in reply toMaricopa

I had that procedure done in sheffield earlier this year which resulted in an enlarged ventricle in my heart

hello. It’s hard being on oxygen I’ve been on it almost 3 years. Started on 4l now on 18 l 24/7. For me I kept needing more as sats were terrible. Even now my oxygen drops to 40s on movement. No joke when you feel like you’re suffocating. I hope they sort you. May need higher oxygen for a while.

Sorry for late reply Sara - been busy with CT scan on chest and outpatients..

It's scary when O2 dips -I sometimes do an overnight test with oxymeter - two weeks ago it was in 60s and 70s for longer than I liked - Basal was 90 so I left it there.

I hope you get home soon and get you sorted proper. Manchester you are not far from where I live. Let us know how you get on.

The same thing happened to me last month. I had a chest x-ray (no infection) antibiotics and they upped my steroids again. After an assessment with the respiratory team I was discharged on a higher oxygen flow and am on the virtual ward. Still no clues as to why. I hope you're doing ok? Are you home now? X
