Treatment in different hospitals

I have been looked after for three years in chichester by a consultant who is a pah specialist. I saw her every three months and a pah consultant from the brompton every six months. Then my chichester got a new job in brighton. I chose brighton over the brompton as it's an easier journey and the brompton consultant had just gone on maternity leave.

Brighton sent me a letter saying were busy, don't expect anything quickly. They said when i get to the top of the outpatients list they would send an appointment. I kind of forgot about it.I

just before christmas i saw my gp, she agreed that going back to chichester made sense. I rang chichester today. Answered the phone quickly (compared to 30 mins for brighton). I spoke to a nice lady who said Oh we've been talking about you, you are down as urgent, probably 4th feb. She asked me how i was. I told her what brighton had said, she said Are you serious. Chichester are so much better, they might not be pah specialists but at least they will see me. The guy at brighton disc nine months is perfectly reasonable wait for a first appointment. I feel very relieved after talking to chichester.

It is worth comparing waiting times at brighton and chichester, chichester are ok, brighton are dreadful.

I have to go to Sheffield For my PAH. Been 4 times last year and go again this Feb You are lucky that another hospital wants to deal with you. I was advised to see my local hospital as they think I may have more issues with my heart on the left side. But as I am a little complicated in my many conditions my local cardiologist is unsure what will be best? So wants a lot more info before he well try to find a solution?

I have loads of stuff too, i think I'm up to nine diseases now. I was quite distressed with how awful brighton are.

It’s improved recently in terms of community medicine eg they have a great home IV service now, and a new “ambulatory care unit” within A&E, open 8 til 8 daily. But these things are only of benefit if you live locally. Inpatient care, and the “normal” A&E dept, are, in my opinion, a disgrace to the nhs, despite the valiant efforts of the staff. Plus they’re building the new hospital around the old one (whose idea was that?) so the chest wards are full of dust, and infection control must be a problem. I’ve refused emergency admission several times this year, too scared of the place. I think you’ve made the right decision. If you’re not happy with St R’s in future, I’d go back to the Brompton.
