As a known essential nutrient in the health and maintenance of the cardiovascular system, CoQ10 provides many benefits in supporting heart health. According to a summary of research studies from the Mayo Clinic Coenzyme Q10 Information web page, CoQ10 has been used for promoting:
Healthy cholesterol levels*: 200 mg/day
Healthy blood pressure levels*: 200‒300 mg/day
Healthy blood pressure levels* during pregnancy: 200 mg/day
Heart function: 300 mg/day
Arterial health: 100‒300 mg/day
(...At this time, I'm on 4 - 500 mg per day, taken as individual 100 mg pills during the day; I'm 76, have emphysema and have generally led a happily dissolute life. Now I'm treating my old bod to a bit of TLC...; can feel it too...)

Ubiquinol is the stronger more absorbable form of CoQ10 which older people are advised to take. I take 2 x 200mg daily. More expensive unfortunately but you cant have everything.
I don't know that it necessarily 'helps' to space them out during the day but when I started taking Qunol again I popped two 100mg at once and got all itchy and a bit red for about 10 min or so. I figured that was how badly out of supply my body was so I first just took two 100s spaced out by a few hours per day and then gradually upped it to 4 or 5 100s per day. I really do feel a difference and am a bit more energized and 'ready' for whatever and not so much of a 'drag-ass'. I plan on continuing and may even up my daily doses; I've read in my research that folks take as much as1200 mg per day with no harmful effects. Don't take my word for it, do your own research. I sincerely hope it's of great benefit to you....
Do you take 400mg per day or 200mg. Ive taken 200mg daily for 2 years. Ran out for one month a while back and my joints started aching. I’ve read that in some country’s it’s automatically prescribed with statins. Ubiquinol.
I take 4 or 5 100s throughout the day but not for statins; my doc tried to get me on statins for cholesterol but I started a daily 3 caps of Slo-Niacin, 500mg ea, again spread out through the day: one in the morning first thing and two more at noon. It solved my cholesterol problem pronto without the hassle of statins.
Me too 🙄 My dad had a pill organiser with 7 compartments, with 4 openings in each (breakfast, lunch, evening and bedtime). Each Sunday evening he’d refill the next week’s compartments. I keep meaning to buy one of these for me but I haven’t yet. Also if you forget if you’ve taken your medications, you just look in the relevant compartment and see if the pills are still there or not.
I have my meds in a pill pouch. Just been introduced by our local pharmacy. It's a big roll of little plastic bags, perforated; 1 for each dose. I prefer it to the dosette they used to supply. The bags are rolled into a giant ball and fit in a cardboard dispenser, theres a little hole they feed through. It's currently delivered too but that's changing to only housebound deliveries. The box is recyclable and I've asked them to find out if the little bags are. It's great for taking out as the bag is diddy and is labelled name, day and time. Its safer and if you have arthritis in hands is a godsend. Enjoy the rest of the holiday, cheers, Scouse
I took them in 2014/2015 and didn't feel they were doing much so I stopped them, but over the last two years my strength and stamina have declined drastically.
After watching skischools article from Horizon on yesterdays post, not sure about supplements anymore and will be very careful what I take in future, its all a mine field x
Of course, it's up to you but as one who's dealt with my own 'barriers' getting in my own way, please be sure you're not letting your own bias's and prejudices get in YOUR way to a bit healthier life. I would suggest reading up a bit more on ubiquinol and its absolute lack of toxicity....; it's a substance our bodies already produce but as we age and go through illnesses, we use up and deplete our supply.
Hi Dmactds, thanks for the reply, I dont have any prejudices, and have used supplements for years as and when I thought neccessary, just confusion and worry now after watching this programme as I didnt realise how dangererous some vitamins/supplements are. I try to read up as much as possible before taking medications of any kind but somethings are not widely published, and you are right our bodies when getting older are depleted from certain vitamins and minerals, my difficulty is deciding what is safe, which is a worry because I thought I knew. I am not saying dont use them, just wish I could decide which ones and how much, as we know one size does not fit all. I will of course read up about this as it seems a good thing to top up on. Irene x
Thanks for that, I have type 2 respiratory failure. I've lost quite a bit of weight but the sats aren't shifting in the right direction. I drop % during a sling shower when I wash my hair; otherwise they're generally 92 when I finish pottering and revert to 97/98 at rest on 3 l per minute 24/7. I've just been referred to haematology as my iron count is low but I dont need to take supplement; this has me bewildered and I'm looking into the 'new' Hb they've discovered.
My follow up respiratory appt from July is next month when I presume they'll do more tests.
