Cpap and Fostair inhaler interaction

For the last year or so I have had problems with my CPAP Autoset increasing the pressure to uncomfortable levels.

I have found out that this pressure increase has been caused by the change of inhaler to a lower dosage steroid. Fostair 100/6 in May last year

I have now gone back to my previous inhaler Fostair 200/6 and for the last week the pressure has dropped to a more comfortable level.

Whats going on ??????

I don't think that the medication and the pressure of the CPAP cant be related.

Sorry did not finish my explanation and pressed enter accidentally. The way your CPAP operates on Auto is as follow. It measures the air that you exhale and the moment you do not exhale it will gradually increase the pressure to take over the circulation of air to your lungs until you start to breathe again when it will lower the pressure again as it feels the back pressure. If you wake up and its running at full blast its defective and should be serviced or replaced or its on the wrong setting. I'm was tested for sleep Apnea and was a border line case for using a CPAP but got one anyway. I used to wake up with an exploding headache usually in the middle of the night and I knew it was a lack of O2 as the combination of COPD as well as sleep apnoea will cause your O2 level to drop fast . Sleep like a baby now.

The machine has been checked by Resmed who found no problem and also I have used another machine and still had the same problem. Before increasing my inhaler my 95% pressure could be as high as 20cm but after increasing the inhaler my 95% pressures have dropped to around 16cm

Also I have noticed that the flow limitations are reduced when using the higher dose inhaler .

Its now been a month since my inhaler dosage has been increased and I am pleased to say that my CPAP Autoset machine has not caused me any problems. The pressures have been lower the last month than they have been the for the rest of the year.

Also I have been feeling better the last month than I have done for the the rest of the year

My COPD is only borderline moderate and does not warrant a steroid inhaler but obviously my lungs need the steroids for my CPAP to work properly

The respiratory nurse who reduced my dosage has admitted that she knows nothing about CPAP machines but surely they should have some training about CPAP machines.
