I have copd severe. And have always had the powder version. Never found it helped. Doctor says it does and told me to take it 4 times a day. After been trying the trimbow. I couldn't believe how fast the bronchodialaters worked. And they are supposed to be the long acting. Not emergency reliever. So I was wondering if the liquid vent olin would work for me where the powder doesn't seem to have any effect except increase heart rate.

Ventolin inhalers
Powder or liquid Ventolin have the same active ingredient, Salbutamol.
There is only one alternative to Salbutamol, it is Terbutaline Sulfate, marketed under the brand name of Bricanyl and comes in a Turbohaler. It is taken as just one puff per dose 4 times a day as required. You could ask your GP to change to that, as your rescue inhaler to see if that works better.
I had to change over to Bricanyl as Ventolin did not work for me either. I have been using Bricanyl for 18 months now, with no issues.
Thankyou. So you don't think the liquid version will be any better then?
Probably not, the only advantage with the MDI (liquid) is you can use a spacer with it, but it is still the same drug.
Try the Bricanyl, nothing ventured nothing gained, if Ventolin does not work anyway you have nothing to lose.
Thankyou. I am seeing doc. On Monday so will ask him for a change. Although he is the one who told me it does work but I just don't notice it! When I had a bad exasperation they gave me 2 nebs
With it. It didn't work then either. So gave me a large steroid jab. that worked. Thankgod and was allowed home.
Another alternative is to ask your GP to switch to the spray/liquid and a spacer. Using a spacer means you get 50% mire of the drug per inhalation.
I've always understood that if using ventolin more than ten times per week then my asthma isn't adequately controlled. P
Thankyou. I don't have asthma. Hence 4 times a day to try and keep airways open. If he gives me the liquid version which he might before trying bricynal as he seems to swear by vent olin. Can I use the same spacer that I use the trimbow. It's a aero chamber plus.
When you say liquid, do you mean the actual liquid in a bottle or the spray type? A was given a bottle of liquid ventolin to be taken with a spoon once in Spain when I'd forgotten my (non powdered) inhaler.
In the uk I've only seen the spray or powder inhalers. I don't like powder ones, either preventer or rescue, so won't accept them.
I'm so sorry, I've no experience of trimbow or bricynol & don't know what they are.
The spacer can only be used with the spray type of inhaler, both preventer and rescue. Hope that helps a tinsy bit. P
