Problems with powder inhalers

I have mild cold and at first just had a blue inhaler I asked about up to date treatments and was given powder inhaler long story short, I have tried two kinds and three different strengths of the reaver Elliot’s and I get throat problems that I have to keep trying to clear my throat and my voice changes sometimes, is ther a non powder treatment that I could try, I did feel definite benefits of the relver Elliot’s.

I used to to have those problems because I was drinking enough after using them especially Seritide 500 but not to bad now that I am but your problem could be coming from a different source

Pete couldn’t use the powder inhalers because they made him choke as they irritated his throat. He uses the seretide purple inhaler and the ventolin blue inhaler plus his nebuliser drugs. Speak to your doctor. Xxxxx

I used Spiriva powder inhaler and regularly had a hoarse throat despite gargling etc afterwards. Asked my Gp and changed to spiriva Respimat which resolved the problem with the same good effect.

I was very croaky and lost my singing voice when on powder seretide, despite gargling and drinking water afterwards. I have been on Anita Ellipta (powder) for the past year and am fine. I have put this down to no longer having a steroid inhaler - I don't have an element of Asthma, so I don't need a steroid inhaler.

I knew my throat was getting worse just took up the powder inhaler purple and blue one.. And my voice goes on me can't sing very good I thought I was my lungs....Never thought i could be the inhaler...

I was on Seratide and Spiriva for over 7 years until June last year when I was changed over to Relvar Ellipta and Incruse Ellipta . I have improved while taking them, especially regarding breathlessness. They are easier to take, help dispel the mucus though I still rinse my mouth after taking.. maybe worth mentioning your problem with your doctor.

Hello, yes. There are alternatives to powder inhalers. Most brands also do a 'wet' one. If you tell your gp or respiratory nurse that your powdered dose is giving you a sore throat etc and could you please try the spray equivalent they should supply you with one. There's a lot to learn if you've just begun so well done you for finding the British Lung Foundation forum. The blue inhalers are known as rescue inhaler and the daily use ones are preventers - and there are so many of these and at times it takes a while to get the perfect one to suit us.

Most of us would suggest rinsing and gargling after use (I even rinse before as well)!

I was told the powder dosn't get in your lungs as good as the mist...

I had similar problems. I now take Spiriva Respimat, Fostair and Ventolin inhalers. These are now all gas inhalers and take through a spacer.
