I'm a bit sceptical when it comes to positive reviews on herbal remedies and their miraculous effects. Was wondering if anyone has tried turmeric curcumin for its anti -inflammatory characteristics and benefited from its use? There is a lot of positive reviews from Rheumatoid Arthritis sufferers,I'm RA positive with Bronchiectasis thrown in for good measure. As inflammation plays a big part in both ailments I'd like to hear anyone's opinions on it?Thanks.

Yes, Ive used turmeric for about 4 years now. I also take cinnamon, cloves and ginger daily. According to Asian healers turmeric needs to be cooked for best effect and to be taken with black pepper and some kind of oil - I use coconut - to be maximally bioavailable. I have it in my porridge - golden porridge. Not the least idea if it helps or not but you've nothing to lose to taking it.

Apart from when Im unwell I feel pretty good and am extremely active for someone with near stage 4 emphysema, bronchiectasis and asthma. Ive recovered from a very serious pneumonia so fast that my medics couldn't believe it. So was it helped by the turmeric? Or the other stuff? Who knows?! :)

I put turmeric with honey slice of ginger in hot water 1/8 .. I drink eight cups a day when my coughing starts.. I was in a Indian shop the man told me there black onion seed with honey every morning him and his wife and children take every morning.. I make a chicken soup from scratch I put barley in the soup.. But during a flare up I put for large onions and one whole garlic in it.. You while start sweating and nose draining while you are eating eat.. Then I make a mustard paste which gets hot put it between two face cloths with a shot of rum... Hot peppers are also good.. I can't take antibiotics some of them.. So thirty years ago looked into other countries... My kids never took any antibiotics .. For me this is what I do when things start acting up.. But it is so true I find it helps with combating with what is going on using spices... My grandmother told me about chicken soup it is a way to get the onion and garlic in you.. And it works... Love your post....

I use turmeric with honey and a slice of ginger with hot water.. I use 1/8 tsp turmeric.. I drink it when things start acting up about eight cups of day .. Black onion seed with honey. And cinnamon with honey . I have been doing this for years.. Also hot peppers witch helps with moving mucus.... I make chicken soup from scratch put in loads of onion and garlic. in the soup.. You will sweat and mucus really moves with my soupl.. Plus I make a mustard paste put it between to face cloths set on your chest with a shot of rum before I go to bed.... .. . Its not a cure but from what I have seen happen to me and my kids I feel it helps it from turning into a chest infection if you catch it in time... When the signs start I will do it all to prevent a lung infection.. I can't take some of the antibiotics... I have been studying on what they do in other countries for over thirty years. and what my grandmother did and they used onion and mustard paste... My kids were never on antibiotics growing up when every one elses kids were.... All you can do is try it nothing to lose.. But you have to start at first sign.. Plus onion seeds and honey every morning..... Prevention is what I work on.. If all fails then drugs....

Hi I have heard numerous times that tumeric is good for you so have bought some and sprinkle it on various meals. Too soon to know if it helps though. x

You need to find a way to use it with oil and black pepper Bev, and definitely cook it if you want it to work - see my reply above. They did a test on Trust Me Im a Doctor using turmeric three different ways. The only group which showed a difference was the one that used it in their cooking xx

Well I put it in meals as they are cooking. I had a veggie rice and veg cooking the other evening and put it on whilst it was cooking. Is that what you mean?

And why oil and black pepper? x

As my above reply, they make the good stuff more bioavailable to the body, i.e. they get absorbed more. :)

Turmeric does seem to have amazing properties. There was or in fact is a doctor named someone Serban Schreider (I think that’s how it’s spelled?) who was diagnosed with a brain tumour and he used several natural remedies but the main one he swears by is using turmeric. His tumour is still in remission and that was like 20 years ago.

I haven't although a friend of mine in France does, religiously for arthritis. She was due a knee replacement and a few months on her regime and she no longer needs the op. She swears it's the Golden Paste (recipe on line) that she makes up with black pepper & olive oil. She orders organic turmeric/curcumin in bulk on line. P

Ive read that turmeric is good for you in many ways. I use it in cooking. But not sure about taking it in any excess as it is a natural blood thinner and I’m already taking aspirin and ramipril .

Take tumeric with black pepper as it helps the body absorb. You can buy tablets in health food stores - Seems to have reduced some pains I have. I have IPF

I use raw ginger root, one teaspoon chopped up and swallowed with a small amount of milk or water in morning. At lunch time i have one quarter or one third of a teaspoon of turmeric powder mixed with half inch of milk , teaspoon of olive oil and 3 shakes of black pepper and drink it straight back. Every other night i have one clove of garlic raw chopped up and swallow it like a few tablets because i can't stand the taste but do this on an empty stomach before bed . As for the turmeric did not think it had to be cooked so long as it was taken before or after meal with some type of oil or fat . However i did find when i first started taking turmeric i was using nearer to a heaped teaspoon of it each day and found that i was waking up with nose bleeds at least 2 to 3 times a week after cutting down to the size of 1or 2 headache tablet 500mg this cleared up . For the record the only other meds i am on is symbicort and spiriva.

The other day I was given a bar of chocolate and just got it out to eat some. It’s organic dark chocolate 70% cocoa with turmeric and black pepper. I think I may have found perfection. 👼

I take a couple of capsules of turmeric (more specifically, curcuminoids mixed with black pepper and organic coconut oil). Can't tell whether they specifically improve my health but I am pretty sure that in combination with a lot of other measures to reduce the inflammatory tendencies in my body (eating anti-inflammatory foodstuffs like pineapple) and cutting out/restricting inflammatory floods like dairy and grains-based food that the package* has had a beneficial effect for my bronchX and (so-far mildish) hip osteoarthritis.

I would have made a stronger supportive statement than this had I not just gone through an exacerbation - first this year that displayed any of those tell-tale signs of inflammatory aching in the bronchial tubes in the evening and in the first hour of waking, with potential for sleep disturbance. Before it had been a quarterly feature at least.

It's always difficult to pinpoint specific beneficial or disadvantageous effects of specific try-outs cos the diseases themselves seem to be so variable in symptoms and impact - at least that's what I find.

I was lucky enough to be a Yorkshireman - ie parents who taught me the value of thrift/savings/investment/living-below-means (call it tight of you like!). Now I'm a well-resourced pensioner I have the luxury of being lazy and not having to remember to sprinkle high-value/low cost turmeric on my food, which I would be very bad at. The capsules cost a lot - about US$40 for 2 months supply, but at least I think they work!

*plus the implied anti-inflammmatory effect of Azithromycin 3x a week

Hi,I’ve got terminal IPF.No cure yet.Did some research and found that Circumin ,in experiments, STOPS the fibrosis.

Turmeric has only a small % in it,so I am now on a daily dose of a high % Circumin product,Fingers crossed,I’m hoping I might save myself.😉

It’s a known ancient Oriental remedy for many aiments.

Good luck in your world.

Found fresh turmeric tuber at the greengrocer. It was really nice. Only problem was the yellow fingers when grating it.

Hi, I can’t really speak for turmeric. But pineapple I have taken note that I believe helps with the chronic inflammation in my body. When I have a respiratory flare up I head to the Chinese herb shop. They can throw together some concoctions to make a tea that usually helps. Arthritic inflammation that I can see( and feel) I use a CBD/THC salve that helps immensely, and does not create any psychoactive effects.
