Heatwave issues

Been a rough few days. Worst of it this morning. Up at 3am thanks to not being able to sleep. By 6am I’m coughing up a ton of phlegm for over an hour straight. Took some painkillers, sore chest seemed to settle down, thankfully.

Still struggling with my breathing. This heat is no good for lung conditions. Managed to stay awake to see the football (bye bye Brazil!) but now I’m crashing. Really tired now.

Wonder how long I’ll be able to sleep for tonight?

Hello Symes .

You are right. The heat is just no good at all for breathing and lungs in general. 😒 I'm so sorry you aren't getting enough sleep. This just magnifies everything and makes things harder to deal with. I hope you sleep tonight. xx 🙋🌸

Thank you @Caspiana

Due to my severe lack of sleep the previous night, I actually slept quite well last night. Slept for 9 hours without waking up once, which is unusual for me!

Hi, sorry to hear you can't get a full night's sleep, I have a similar problem but mine is caused by an active bladder, but at least generally I can get back to sleep. I have an adjustable hospital bed and therefore sleep virtually sitting up. It' takes some getting used to but if I try to lay flattish when I retire to bed, I panic and have to sit upright to breath. At least by sitting upright I usually keep a clear chest over night and don't have the problem of a lot of mucus on my chest in the morning. I take carbocisteine last thing and apart from a lump of mucus when I get out of bed my chest keeps clear to sleep.

If you don't already do it, try sitting up using pillows, it may keep the coughing down a bit, bear with it tho' as it is a weird position to sleep.

Yes, Symes, I've had a few sleepless night's lately too. I'm ok once I get to Sleep but, can't seem to get comfy. Phlegmy throat n too hot. I think a lot of People are struggling. Extremes of Weather aren't good for Lung problems. Let's hope it eases up soon. 😊🌻✌️

Thank you everyone.

I can relate to everything said on here. I have Bronchiectasis. Even my husband (who doesn't have lung problems) is having trouble breathing due to the heat.

Very interesting to hear about so many unfortunate people struggling with their breathing in the heat. I've been stage 4 COPD for nearly three years now, but my problems really come about in the cold - it just seems to shrivel up what's left of my lungs, leaving me gasping and panting. By contrast, I enjoy the hot weather, my chest "dries up", less phlegm, easier

breathing all round. Of course, quite slight exertion still makes me feel very

out of breath, but the usual accompaniments of discomfort and wheeziness are so much less in the hot weather. My GP seems to find

this hard to believe too, and I only mention it because it seems that this illness has many quirks and oddities that surprise not only us, the patients, but also the medical profession as well.
