Venesection

Hya just wondering does anyone else have to have venesections due to their lung condition?

Hi Diane - I have secondary polycemia, consequence of copd rather than the primary condition. Ive always been told they don't do venesection for secondary polycethemia.

However I do have haemochromatosis which is hereditary (genetic markers from both parents required for the diagnosis) and have had two lots of venesection for that, last week and two weeks before. With polycythemia its the haemoglobin which is too high, with haemochromatosis it's the ferritin, so different measurements.

Have you had to have venesection?

Hya yes I have had about 5 or 6 venesections over the last 18 months, but they started off quiet regular like once a week initially when first diagnosed with secondary polycythemia, I have bronchiectisis since childhood but in early 2017 I got so I'll and was also diagnosed with mild pulmonary hypertension, I am now on home oxygen and different meds and need venesections when i need them but after saying all that I am doing alot better, hope your well xx
