Support Stockings Venous insufficiency

I have COPD, now Long Covid and have venous insufficiency.

The support stockings have been a nightmare, was measured up by practice nurse but the welts and pain in my legs was awful. So I bought them privately, but still find them so difficult.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Compressionsockshop.co.uk is the my go to company when not wearing for post surgery. Can you go back to nurse to be re measured ? Good luck.

Hi Anniesob, l wear support stockings and they can be difficult to wear. I struggle getting them off. If they are measured correctly they should be comfortable to wear but sometimes the tops can dig in. Get the practice nurse to re check measurements and see if she can offer advice. There is a device to help you get them on. Good luck to you. Xxx

It all sounds awful but don’t give up Annie. I don’t understand why they hurt like they do. It needs investigating. Xxx

Support stockings should not hurt. Go back to the nurse. Possibly a different brand would suit you better.

I can only suggest you persist- make a thorough nuisance of yourself.

Yes, throw them away! I wore mine once and that was enough. I try not to wear any socks except in winter. Discolouration around ankle has almost disappeared. Good luck, Chris

So did you have venous insufficiency? After not wearing them did your ankles swell up? Thanks

My ankles swell with any socks. I have tried cutting the top edges, bought soft top socks all to no avail. Sandals in the summer and trainers or lined boots in winter. I have high BP and circulation not good so need to take care, Chris

It sounds as though they’re not on properly, you can get an aid to put them on, thereby making sure they’re pulled up correctly. I wear them for the same reason and yes, they’re really difficult to get on properly. I use a pair of rubber gloves, turned inside out, to get a better grip on them. They also give me a container of a type of body glue to keep them in position. Hope you get them sorted.

can you make an appointment with your provider so they can go through the best way for you to get them on and off and to make sure you’re managing them?

Did they do a doplar before prescribing them? Circulation has to at a good enough level before you can be prescribed them. Our surgery prescribe Medi Duomed Support stockings (I'm in grade 2 ones), they are easy to put on and very comfortable plus breathable, no more flaky dry legs.😊. They don't roll down at the top and create muffin top like the others do either, which is so uncomfortable.

Yes they did, and I have strong grade 2 ones, but they were so uncomfortable L and XL, the tops dug into my legs and I went for amazon ones, still v uncomfortable

duomed soft® below knee compression stockings

These are the ones I have, sorry don't know how to put on a picture as well. They are a reasonable price as well, I've seen them on Amazon but there's so much came stuff on Amazon now that I would try to buy them direct from the Medi site.

Sorry don't know how to make things clickable:-

The nurse measured my legs and had them made because one leg was a little different to the other by a firm named MEDI in Germany, They are a bit thicker than what I have been used too, but quite comfortable, but you will need someone to put them on for you. My lovely Pharmacy Day Lewis delivered them to me. Good Luck Annie.
