Hi guys, IV just been told I have pleural effusion (pleurisy) on my right lung following from provoked pulmonary embolism due to hysterectomy surgery. I'm on blood thinners, and was told no nsaids however today told the a couple of them to help with pain should be fine. I'm awaiting to see anticoagulant clinic on Monday but wondered if anyone has any self help ideas to relieve pain and get rid of it as laying down is a nightmare at the moment. Thanks

Hello Boo

I am interested in your story but can’t help with pain relief I’m afraid. Mine is similar. I got PEs after a hip replacement op 8 years ago. You have not mentioned the time scale. When was your op, and when did you get the PEs? The pain in my lungs from the PEs went after a few weeks. But I was unfortunate in that the clots did not resolve and I was left with Chronic Thromboembolic Disease. But 98% of people who get PEs make a complete recovery. Could you tell me a little bit more about your story if you feel comfortable with that?

Hi, I had my surgery 8 weeks ago, found out about the pe 10 days after the op, IV been on apixaban since and have to stay on them till July when I get to see a consultant. I had a CT scan on Saturday and they confirmed the clot has been dissolved but it has caused inflammation on that lung and small effusion. He said to take ibuprofen just every so often and it should be ok and should resolve soon. I'm cautious about the ibuprofen as I'm aware of the risks being on anticoagulant, so I'll call the clinic in the morning. Any experience, advice or help on self help would be appreciated. Feel like IV taken two steps forward and ten back with my health x
