I just spotted this

ukhsa.blog.gov.uk/2024/08/0...

Age eligibility seems to have been reduced from 75 to 65. Otherwise it’s based on the Green Book (link’s in the blog).

NHS England mooted 1 Sept as a start date but have yet to confirm

Ed: for anyone interested, here’s the full statement from JCVI gov.uk/government/publicati...

YAY, thanks for that JaneD. Thank goodness common sense at last or is it because there is so very much covid around 🤔. I'm still peed of I couldn't get the spring booster, if I had I may not have caught my first covid in June. 😘

Very true, peege. How annoying! I don’t understand why they were so stingy with it last time 🤷‍♀️

Perhaps 'They' were trying to see how many they could bump off again 🤔

If Matt was still around, it wouldn’t surprise me 😆

My dad had the booster,my mum didn't but both caught covid for the first time.I wasn't allowed the spring booster so kept away from them til they were not infectious, I don't want it again. They change their criteria like the weather lol

Pete and l both had the Spring booster and will take any jab going. I’ve never been offered it before but as Pete’s carer felt l should have been. 65 and over makes sense. Xxx

They encourage people to have the boosters but then report that the boosters aren't any good for protecting us from the latest strain.

Who is “they” - do you have a link, please Simon?

They: various medical advisors on the News weeks ago.

I’ll look into it

I'm not out to cause trouble. I'm as vulnerable as anyone on here.

Thanks to catching Covid my Copd went up a stage and I developed Long Covid which after three and half years I've been diagnosed with ME/CFS.

In the early days I took the first three or four boosters quite happily.

In more recent times the booster has only been offered to much older age groups.

Also the strains have changed and the vaccines haven't. As I say it was reported by various News outlets and health advisors but the advice was to take it anyway. (Which makes no sense to me personally)

Ha, no Simon, I didn’t think you were! I just like to see some evidence because I watch and read a lot of news and there are ill-informed reports on all sorts of topics. If a respected virologist from Imperial College, for example, has said this, then we need to be aware. I know they’ll be using the same vaccines as in Spring, but I’m going to have it anyway because I’ve got an immune deficiency and my lungs are crap, so if it gives me even a teensy bit more protection I’d welcome it - but it’s a very individual decision

What I do is I have the jab anyway and do what I feel is fit and right for me!

Good, I'm pleased for you.

One thing I have learned through experiences is how what's right for one person isn't what's right for all as we are all different!

Turnipgirl profile image

Don't they write to you in due course with a date and time for the jab as with me last year I got a letter through the post off the health board inviting me for a jab which I took!

janedivney profile image
janedivney in reply to Turnipgirl

In England we get notified of our eligibility and can then book a date, but some slip through the net and also it takes time for everyone to be notified. In April I’d already had my jab before I received a text asking me to book it.

Turnipgirl profile image
Turnipgirl in reply to janedivney

Here in Wales they said not to contact them about jabs and that they will write to everyone eligible in due course!

The health service were never very efficient were they even when times were good but they have gone from bad to worse!

Back in February a prescription got lost that was due to be sent to the local boots shop and I kicked up a fuss over it and got a paper one and thankfully no harm was done and had my annual check up anyway!

Thankfully I had rung the boots shop up to ask if my prescription was ready as I hadn't heard anything off them and they said no they hadn't received it and I had felt really cross but thankfully had booked a doctors appointment anyway in advance so sorted one out then and wasn't left without!

Then in the March I received a text off boots saying my prescription was ready to collect so I collected it and there was the slip saying to book a check up and I happily threw that in the bin as that had been happily done and dusted ages ago and no problems there!

I was glad that I allow lots of time for things like prescriptions to be ready rather than fly by the seat of my pants trusting to luck after that palaver!

I am not an Anti Vax but my husband has compromised immune system.

But I stopped allowing him to have the vaccine after October 2022 due to the negative impact on his body.

After the first 2 Vaccines he had a stroke. And the next 3 Vaccines caused epileptic seizures. The seizures were confirmed by a neurology Dr as been linked with a vaccine.

Their solution was to pump hubby with extra medication during the weeks surrounding the vaccine.

Luckily not everyone in the UK has had the negative side effects but it's still something to think about.

Like you, I'm not anti vax, but I'm not sure if I would take another one if offered (I'm under 75) Along with a respiratory consultant, we seem to have identified a link between my first Covid vaccination and a considerable worsening of my asthma - peak flow 210 and lung function 51%. I think I'll ask my consultant for advice re taking another vaccination.

My husband was 52 when he had Liver transplant his 6 months isolation ended at the time covid isolation started 🤦‍♀️. Being responsible we stayed as a whole family isolated. My hubby had Astrazeneca 1st and second then had a severe stroke, he's lost the use of right side of his body he has Apraxia of speech and global aphasia. Which one confuses the words from brain and the other stops them coming out . He was an Accountant at the time. 3rd and 5th were Pfzer and 4th was Maderna. Due to the stroke he got epilepsy also. But the last 3 Vaccines triggered seizures. And the 5th vaccine triggered 10 seizures within 1 hour the 7th seizure lasted 25 minutes by the time they got him to the short distance to the ambulance he had a further 2 having to stop while he had it. The 10th Seizures they administered some extra medication to stop them. It was frightening and that's why I refused to let him have more. We both caught covid in April 22 and considering he had the compromised immune he didn't get unwell just a slight headache and temp. Me perfectly healthy curled up in bed for days.

I would check with your Dr, like my hubby they may offer some kind of medication to limit the effects of the vaccine

i am not anti vax either, but people should really do some reseach into this mRNA jab, and see excaltly why so many have had strokes after, and had other health issues after having it, while being fit and healthy before. you are wise to be wary Shabana i am so sorry to hear the bad news.

On the other hand, according to research funded by the Stroke Association “Covid-19 can give you a 20 times higher risk of a stroke in the first few weeks after having Covid-19. Your risk stays slightly heightened for about a year after infection.” This has just happened to a friend of mine, who’s now very ill in hospital

jane i am trying to establish what came first with your friend, jab or covid?

janedivney profile image
janedivney in reply to bluepettals7

He had a booster in April and caught covid about 2 weeks ago. He had the stroke a few days ago

bluepettals7 profile image
bluepettals7 in reply to janedivney

there you are then, so many people have had strokes after having it. plenty of research out there.

janedivney profile image
janedivney in reply to bluepettals7

Er… he had the stroke 4 months after the vaccine and 7-10 days after covid, and despite Stroke Association research that strokes are 20 x more likely in the few weeks after covid, you’re blaming the April vaccine???

bluepettals7 profile image
bluepettals7 in reply to janedivney

jane we will leave this conversation here, i suggest you do some googling. i hope your friend recovers. the thing is many people do research and some just dont understand but each to their own. so we will leave this here. you only have to read what shabana has written. i wish your friend well.

janedivney in reply to bluepettals7

Yes, I agree. Of course there are side effects with all drugs and for someone like Shabana’s husband it’s been catastrophic. We all have to stay informed and decide what’s best for ourselves. My post was just to put the latest booster information out there, then people make their own choice.

For my friend it’ll be a long recovery but the docs think he’ll be ok. Thank you for your good wishes x

Thank goodness over 65s are now able to have the vaccine if they choose. Really it should be offered to anyone with lung problems, regardless of age.

I am 63 and have been offered all boosters, and taken them. I recently had Covid and while it wasn’t pleasant, I dread to think how much worse it may have been if I hadn’t had the vaccine.

Thanks for sharing xx
