Hi

Could be a mixture of both, plus are there any air wick air freshener in the home plug in or automatic.

Ask them to refrain from smoking in your presence , it’s only going to aggravate and make your condition worse.

Other than that probably time to leave if possible.

yes - explain your condition to them and see if they try to refrain from smoking when you are around especially in the car if not I would say time to leave.

Hi best if you have a consultation with your GP, they can also do tests to see if it's an allergy or an upcoming ailment. Preferably don't be too near to people who smoke especially in a car. Running out of breath when talking, keep it to just enough.
