I went in for my op 8 days ago and it went better than I expected, by the I mean the spinal soon cleared, i did not bleed and got home earlier than expected,

So far so good.

Three night later I had a nasty fall, I meen I moved in a bungalow because I have fallen down stairs twice.

So my nose seemed to bash into floor hard, It bled but not as much as I thought it should have done, had just gone back on blood thinners, I suppose I am lucky it was not two days later or I would have been took in hospital to have bleeding stopped.

What puzzle me was the lack of blood - it bled for a few hours then shopped. It was sore but not greatly, no bruising except under my nose and I resembled Hittler.

I was concerned , worried even - I am 77 and a fall like that, was scary.

When i was 70, I fell down stairs head first all way to bottom, banged my head but leg bruising was worse.

I did not worry at all - What a difference 7 years makes.

#I was at GP today for a 24 hour ECG result so I told GP about the fall, she checked me bestshe could and said "Symptoms would probably be more severe if bad damage had been done"

I must be going soft, I have had three previous falls, countless angina episodes, rushed in hospital but.....

Nothing even shook me up as much as this fall.

Hi Ern

I’m very sorry to hear about your fall. It must be very scary for you. My mum is a little bit older than you but had a nasty fall in a car park last year. She wasn’t badly damaged, thankfully but her confidence has really been shaken by it and I’m sure yours has, too.

I imagine that, having moved to a bungalow because of those falls downstairs you had, you assumed you’d be ok on the fall front now and so it must have come as a big shock to you mentally that it’s happened again. Are you aware of what caused the fall? Did you trip on something, or, if it was at night, were you a bit disoriented from sleep? I know the GP has checked you out as best she can and reckons you bounced pretty well considering😊 but if you fell for no obvious reason I would respectfully suggest that needs checking out a bit more thoroughly, particularly as you have some heart issues going on by the sound of it. In addition, if, as you say, you’re on blood thinners and hit your head that should really warrant a trip to A&E to check for internal bleeding. That’s where mum ended up as she’s on Wafarin. A bit after the fact now, I know but something to keep in mind if, Heaven forbid, it should happen again.

Thank you I slipped - I was stupid enough to walk on a shiny surface with no slippers on, just a tad of moisture and over you go.

I have fell before - this was different, my nose crashe in the floor, and worse, bruising was to a minimum, it should have been worse - I had a GP appointment yesterday and she said, if more serious it would have worse effects with a huge nose drip. At least what I went to see her over, my heart has not gone worse.

I have had fall before and shrugged them off, this time I couldn't for some reason.

Take care of yourself, falls do a lot if damage and it happens so quickly even turning round can put you off balance .have you got a stick or walking aid to use at home until you are sronger.

I use a stick outside, due to falling down stairs when I was 70. I manage ok in a bungalow but am prone to falling to to muscle die back on feet, Thank's _ will take extra care,

Hi Ern, Pleased you're recovering from your op 🙂👍but must have been very scary falling like that (could it be an after effect of the anaesthetic?? I've heard it stays in your system a long time) but as for you worrying more now I think it's natural as we get older and have chronic illnesses to cope with. I never used to worry about things but seem to worry about everything now 🙄. Take care 🙂xxx

Thank you - I agree 4 years ago when I had a worse fall, I shrugged it of, this was just to days after my op, I don't usually feel depressed this time I did, trip to doctors helped

Thank you - I have a stick but being honest - I was to lazy to put my slippers on and w have a wood floor, I have hardly any muscle in my feet, I had a 'slip fall' -

Glad to hear your op went well Ern but sorry about the fall. Did your doctor check your ears, they can sometimes cause an imbalance. Perhaps you could use one of these walkers until you are steady, my sister has one now and she says it has helped her alot. Take care x

Thank's Izb1. I have bad ears but as my GP pointed out, I take a lot of meds - I was shocked as I never thought I would fall ina bungalow, it was a freak accidental slip fall, I did not trip. x

I dont think it matters whether its a house or bungalow, we sometimes just fall. I had a fall going to the doctors and for the life of me i dont know why I fell, there was nothing to trip over and it really shocked me so much so that i turned over and just sat there for a while to calm my nerves. I ripped my tendon out of my shoulder and had a rotator cuff op to put it right, it lasted a while but it has come lose now, thankfully it doesn't pain me as I dont think i could go through that op again x

I have something in my neck, which refers to me shoulders, painfulI take morphine for that, yes you do fall for no reason sometimes, I was answering the door in last home and fell down stairs full length, seem to bother me much lest, than this same floor slip and fall.. fact I had just had my op two days before could have played on my mind, and that had gone as well as ever it had done.

Falls are never good and the older one gets the worse they can be. Glad you seemingly didn’t do much damage so one needs to be really careful as you already know.

Fell down stairs trice before moving to bungalow, this fall really I am surprised was not worse, I have ha three lives, not gonna risk a fourth.

It seems that way. I ha just had the op also, lucky me I think/hope...Now just waiting for letter.
