had mouth thrush a few times but never like this
I am also currently having a dreadful time with oral thrush plus incredibly dry mouth. My dentist thinks issues are due to amount of medications I am on. She has referred me to another dentist who can prescribe something which may help.
In the meantime I gargle with salt water. Usually this helps and the problem goes away. This time the problem remains but I get some relief from the salt water.
hi worth trying a change in your inhaler- as far as i know Trimbow can cause thrush so if you are still using it you just adding to already affected area! Ask for change asap! Good luck and hope its sorted soon
Fluconazole is at the bottom end of the anti fungal range, you may need something a bit stronger such as itraconazole. Anti fungal can be rather slow acting, itraconazole can take 6-8 weeks to start being really effective
When in hospital in Jan/Feb I developed my first crop pf oral thrush. The hospital gave me Nyastin which did the trick but I am sure it occurred because I forgot to take my big spacer which I use for my Trimbow inhaler. No problems before or since.
Hi Primrose, I had thrush for years I had many different thrush treatments none of them worked I was on Sprivia and seretide, and steroids when needed for an infection,I told my Pulmonary doctor that I wanted to stop taking any medication with steroids as Seretide has steroids also.He kindly put me on Spiolto 2 puffs once a day in the morning 7 months ago no more Thrush, I have had emphysema for 21yrs now. I do get breathless at times when ,but stops when I sit for 5 minutes. Good Luck thrush is hard to get rid of ask your doctor about Spiolto if its suitable for you.😊
I use daktarin oral gel as it's ssoothing and quickly clears it x
Thanks Patk1 used to use it but here in Scotland all chemist says it’s been withdrawn take care
Painful! Hope something works for you soonx
I was taking fluticasone propionate prescribed by my pulmonologist. He had told me to rinse my mouth because of thrush which I did faithfully but got it anyway. What worked for me was apple cider vinegar and I also got caprylic acid tablets from Amazon and thankfully I have had no more problems. I tried stopping the steroid but my cough got quite bad so I started back morning and night. Now I’m back to trying a dose at bedtime and so far so good. I nebulizer with abuterol/ventolin and 7% saline. After using my inhaler I rinse with water then diluted ACV. Hope something works as the thrush was horrible. I couldn’t eat. Chris
I use one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and gargle with that. I used to get thrush a lot but not since I used the apple cider vinegar solution.
I'm 72 years old and two years ago had my first ever experience of oral thrush. It went on for months and I had Nystatin put on my repeat prescription as if I missed even a couple of days, it came back.
I was also being troubled by repeated chest infections and had umpteen lots of antibiotics and was on prednisolone for ages.
I asked my GP if she thought there might be something affecting my immune system. She said she thought not.
By this time I was also being troubled with extremely cold legs and had a pile of blankets on my side of the bed while my husband was sleeping the other side under our 10.5 tog quilt with no problem. I think I totalled 6 layers of blankets and was still cold so wore leggings and warm pyjamas plus bed socks! My legs were still freezing and it was stopping me sleeping. Hot water bottles didn't make a difference either.
I went back to my GP and said I was now very concerned that something was very wrong. To put my mind at rest, she ordered a full blood test and it showed that I was extremely anaemic!
With the right tablets and help from a nutritionist I eventually got my iron and folate levels back to normal and - guess what? The thrush went away and has not returned! I was able to do away with all the extra bedding too.
As you have mentioned cramp in your feet, I wonder if you would benefit from a full blood count as your GP may get a surprise as mine did!
I'm not knocking my GP, by the way, as she is the most patient, lovely person who has got things right every other time, but she just didn't make the connection on this occasion and I had to push her on it.
Good luck with treating the thrush - it's horrible and I found having it was very upsetting.
