Hi
Does anyone else get tightness across the bottom of their ribs? I'm assuming it's from hyperinflation pushing against my diaphragm but don't have any SOB. Seems strange that I could have hyperinflation and not be SOB.
Thanks

Yes I have it and it probably is from hyperinflation. My respiratory nurse says Spiriva and other drugs in the LAMA (long acting muscarinic agonist) class of drugs are helpful for dealing with hyperinflation. Unfortunately I can't take them as the dry mouth and throat side effect is so extreme I literally can't talk. But many people here are successfully on these drugs so it might be worth talking to your doctor if you haven't tried one of them yet.
Suggest you loosen your bra. ..
Seriously you need to do some of the lung exercise such as pursed lip breathing
Yes I do and if I lean sideways or down to pick anything up the muscles there go into a very painful spasm. Years ago a specialist said it was muscle fatigue from coughing though I`m not a cougher. A physiotherapist I spoke to had never heard the term "muscle fatigue". Whatever it is, it hurts ! Sheila x
I get sore ribs from trying to overextend them in activity and singing. If I take 2 puffs of Ventolin first, it stops it happening. I went to an osteopath who explained about the diaphragm going into spasm. He massaged the sore intercostal muscles and showed me how to relax the spasming diaphragm with a technique of tucking my fingers under the ribs and breathing in and out. Sore but worth it.
