Can Steriods cause Bleeding in post menopausal ladies?

Hello everyone

My name is Deborah and I've recently been officially diagnosed with COPD by a specialist although have been on my GP Surgery COPD list since 2010 when a chest X-ray showed hyperinflation of the lungs.

I've recently had an episode of bronchiectus I was provided with 2 inhaler medications sprivia and fostair 100/6 containing steroid.

I am a post menopausal lady and two days ago noted bleeding I have been referred by gp on the fast track pathway so that's all in hand but I have had read steroids can cause bleeding and am just wondering if there is nothing more sinister than this being the cause?

Thank you for reading sorry for rambling!

Hi and welcome to the forum. I have no experience of this but any unexplained bleeding should really be checked out with your doctor. Or you could ring the BLF helpline for advice on 03000 030 555 during office hours if you reside in the UK.

Thank you for the welcome Mrs Mummy,

My post did indicate I have had a referral for the bleeding, your guidance none the less is appreciated.

Most of the fast track referrals end up as innocent but the doctor checks just incase.

Thank you, as I was fast tracked earlier this month to the lung specialist it was a little concerning to have another 2 wk referral in the same month for another issue!

Since posting I've read several snippets which indicate it's a fairly frequent occurrence in menopausal women so phew I'm relaxing and thinking happy thoughts 🤗

Hi my sister had that and she wasn't on steroids or anything. They gave her something ending in oscopy which she said was ok. They found nothing wrong. Fingers crossed you are fine too. Take care.
