I am on a tapering dose of Prednisolone tablets started on 30 mg in July now down to 10 mg but have started to feel really tired and aching muscles and joints, just wondered if anyone else had felt this. Kind regards Carole

Has anyone had withdrawal coming off Prednisolone tablets
i was given two weeks supply of prednisolone, my consultant told me just to take one week first and if that did not help to take the other week, the first week did the trick but after the next two days i had the same symptoms as you i do not think i will be using them again as the after affects were not very pleasant.
My side effects coming off, were usually mental, a slowing down and depressed feeling, but them on them I had fits of the munchies and talk/talk/talk 😱
When you get down to 10mg it’s time for adrenals to start to take over but they can be a bit slow to wake up. You should be reducing very slowly now. I took 10 one day, nine the next10 the next until my body got used to it then reduced by 1mg and did the same thing. I did have muscle and joint pain for some time. If it continues you maybe able to get a synacthen test to see if your adrenals are working correctly. Good luck.
Hi,
Just happened to see your post and may I recommend you have a look on the PMR/GCA Forum for all the information & advice you might ever need on the pros & cons of tapering off Prednisolone (Pred).
Those of us with Polymyalgea (PMR) or Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) are on it for years and all our stories are there.
Btw, can you remember what dose of Pred you were on just before the present symptoms started, because you might well have to go back towards that level so as to clear your present symptoms, and then once settled again you can then restart the taper but at a smaller dose over a longer period. (I would suggest no more than 0.5 gms over each two weeks but then NOT until you are again symptom free. No improvement = No reduction. (Note: I usually feel a bit rough for the first 3 to 4 days after 0.5 mg reduction but then it quickly improves)
Every Good Luck and remember Slowly, Slowly Catchee Monkey oh and don't worry about the adrenals till your you are down around & beyond 7mgs.
I’ve been weaned off steroids several times and had no problems. In August I was on 30mg a day for a while and gradually reduced the dose. I am now on a maintenance dose of 7.5mg daily.
Since prednisone is an anti-inflammatory steroid, while on it, it lessens the aches and pains. I was on it for years, when I finally was weened off of it, my joints started aching. I'm 72 and that is normal for my age.

Hello Nantucket or may I call you Carol? I was on Prednisolone but did not feel as if they helped me at all. The reverse I think. I thought I waa more short of breath wwhilst on and after coming off them. I was also very tired taking them. That could have been the tabs or my general condition. I refused to try a third time as |I did not feel they were doing m any good/ They do have a good result for some patients, but definately not for me. Wish you well and hope you soon find something that suits you best. Take care, Spooks36
