Perdnisolone tablets

Hiya, had a flare up of my moderate COPD, been to the doctors who gave me antibiotics and Prednisolone tablets, have to take 8 of them a day, was reading online that it's better to take them all at the same time was wondering if this was true or space them out like other tablets.

One of the common side effects is insomnia, so best to take all in one go first thing in the morning not in the evening.

If you are experiencing problems from taking them all together go back to your GP for advice.

I will thanks, haven't had steriod tablets before xx

High doses of preds particularly along with steroid inhalers can give you the shakes, lightheadedness, nausea, headaches, weird detached feelings & possibly more.

In these circumstances GP will probably say spread them out, but always best to get advice.

The pharmacist may advise if you can't contact GP.

Best wishes, hope you're better soon.

Hi Ann

Ok that’s 40mg a day, a standard dosage for a chest infection and/or breathlessness, so all at once with food before 8 a.m. As 2greys mentioned insomnia can be a problem, which is why I have my breakfast by 6.30!

Life is a gamble..get better soon 😊

Take all at once, preferably in the morning. Always follow the "tailing off" procedure when taking a course of Prednisolone. there is a very good reason for this, it gives your bodies own steroid production system time to kick back in after it shuts down with the heavy medication intake.

Please note all the side effects mentioned are not inevitable: I get none of the side effects.

Do not take advice that suggests what the Doctor MIGHT say...............Ask the GP, Nurse or a Pharmacist directly.

Every patient may have a different reaction to any medication, so it is wise to read the guidance literature included, but remember these are prescribed for your benefit and chances are any undesirable side effects will be outweighed by the benefits the medication gives you.

Ok...take them in morning after food...incidentally they an cause a not-so-well-known side effect where there is pain in the Illiac muscle, it the one that allows your pelvis to flex...but it soon passes as your system gets used to the dosage level. Take heed of the reduction procedure as it can cause adrenal fatigue leaving ya tired and reduced libido..If you are on long term prednisolone then keep up appointments with the asthma nurse if your practice has one as it can also reduce other natural hormone production...eg. Diabetes.

Any worries then talk to your GP, Asthma nurse etc as they have far more info than the scary ones on the net.

Good luck Annie.

I agree with Stone and happylondon. Take them all at once early morning with breakfast or just after as i do. That way it minimizes the effect on your ability to sleep at night.

If you are at all like me you will find that after a couple of days you will feel great on the tablets. Don't fret about the possible side effects unless you actually experience them, All the answers so far seem very valid to me. All the best.

Hi I always take my eight tablets together in the morning. My doctor advised this hopefully to have low insomnia which is a side effect along with becoming hyper whilst I take them
