Hi everyone, I hope you all had a good weekend and are well?

I have a lung function test on Wednesday at my local hospital which should tell me more but...

my asthma keeps going in and out of control like everyday one day it be ok and the next it will be back to haunt me and cause me loads of grief and I am taking all the right meds everyday.

I guess what I want to know is why is it not getting under control?? Sorry if this sounds silly to ask

But any reassurance or advice would be greatly appreciated

Hi, Erin001. My COPD affects me more on some days because the weather is wetter or air pollution is higher than normal.

Have you tried a simple symptoms diary to check what exacerbates your asthma - note down tasks you do with potential triggers like paint or flowers or pollen or powered products like flour, and also symptoms like asthma in crosses according to severity: x or xx or xxx or xxxx or xxxxx. It might help you track down what's going on

Keeping an asthma diary is a very good idea, as it might throw up some activities or surroundings that are making your asthma worse.

I know how unpleasant it is for you to feel that your asthma is not under control. You said you are in year 11, so are you doing your GCSEs this year? If so perhaps you are worrying about that more than you realise and as you know, stress and anxiety can make your breathing worse. It's very hard having to deal with asthma when you are still at school because obviously you want to do what your friends are doing and you can't just rest when you want to.

Please try to relax when you can and wait until you've had your lung function tests on Wednesday, which I hope will give you some answers. Maybe your preventer meds need to be changed. We are all very different when it comes to how we react to the medicines they give us.

Just a thought, but have you ever tried yoga? It's not all about peculiar positions, but very much about breathing and it certainly helped me. I wish I'd tried it when I was still a teenager and a bit more supple!

Let us know how you get on with your lung function tests on Wednesday.

Best wishes, Jan :-)

Mine acts up with the weather if I eat to much wheat acid reflux . I keep a dairy to see what is bothering my asthma many things can cause coughing I have trigger asthma its smells that can cause me to cough plus antiflamatory medications can't take them for more than a few days at a time. With asthma we have a lot of allergies I have tons so take note what is going on around you at the time of coughing.
