I had a nasty cold just over three weeks ago. I then went to the surgery because I'm asthmatic and my chest was really bad I was short of breath and coughing up a lot of mucus. I was given antibiotics and steroids. I felt a bit better after about 4 days but this didn't last once I'd finished the meds. I've since had another 7 day course of steroids but I'm still feeling no better and I'm feeling increasingly short of breath and have a really tight chest and horrible pain in my left side and a really fast heart rate. Any opinions on whether this could be a sign of pneumonia?

Possible pneumonia
It sounds as if you have the bug that has been going around. I had a sore throat beginning of December which turned into a cough. Then, with the help of strepsils it seemed to go away. Again it came back and this pattern has gone on up to this date. I have heard a lot of people have suffered this way. Re the pain in the left side, you should see your doctor again a.s.a.p. If the surgery isn''t open, then try your A & E department or alternatively ring the duty doctor. Good luck and I so hope you will soon be better.

I would certainly go back to your doctor and explain that the tablets aren't working Gizmo.
Good luck and I hope you will soon be better.
Thanks for your replies. I've been back to the doctor today with a really sore throat and still short of breath and I've been given more antibiotics for a possible upper respiratory tract infection and was told to go back if things don't improve. So we'll have to wait and see.
