Hi Minsha i had a fine needle EBUS lung biopsy done after two broncoscopies, a CT and a PET scan. It lasted about 5 minutes i was awake but sedated. I remember bits but not much. Best advice I can give you is in the run up to it try and desesatize your gag reflex if you can be it gently with a toothbrush or s clean little finger. Over time i could have my little finger in for 2 few minutes. Your gag reglex is numbed but after quite a few broncoscopies and endoscopies this helped. I hope all goes well i was nervous also but after a few broncs i thought what the hell if i need them i need them. And if your anxious im sure the nurse or staff will relax you during it all mine have. I also tried to relax and slow my breathing and think of something else. You will cough mucus and bits of blood for a few days thats normal due to the procedure also they watch you for hours after it. Honestly its tolerable once you get your mindset round it. hope all goes well and take care.

Hi Minsha, you're bound to be nervous about the procedure, especially knowing you'll be awake; I certainly was the first time I had one but everything turned out fine. Although I was awake, after being given the sedation I became very relaxed and drowsy, and what was going on faded right away so that I was completely comfortable. Anyone I know who has had the same procedure has had a similar experience and hopefully it will be the same for you. Good luck with it and good luck for the results x

Hi again minsha i got the results in about a week and a half if i remember correctly. In that time try not to worry i know its easy to say that but try to, you dont need more stress on top of worry and anticipation. Take care and good luck.

I had bronchoscopy lavage last Tuesday. The doctor knew I was nervous so after preparation and throat anaesthetic gave me a 'moderate' amount of sedative. Next thing I knew I was awake, all equipment gone and it all over. Tell the staff how you feel and I am sure everything will be fine. Good luck

I had it done at Southmead in Bristol. They did warn me about feeling a bit rough for a short while, which I did but slept it off very quickly. I was sent a leaflet about it which was helpful. All the staff were very kind, which is what I have always experienced wherever I've been. I do hope you don't have to wait too long, always the nerve wracking bit. Where will you have it done? Have they told you you have to be accompanied and have someone with you for 24 hours? All the best.

I'm having it at St Thomas in London...no real information given as I had a telephone consultation. I'm waiting for a date this week ..so not sure when they will spring it on me. your response has been really comforting ..Thank you so much . I'll keep you posted ☺

I would like to thank all you guys for the info you have given minsha, I have to have my ebus biopsy in January to confirm sarkoidosis on top of my copd, I am not superstitious but it is on Friday 13th. I did cancel this which was originally booked for last week. Did feel a bit guilty about it but it just so happened it was the day of the train strike and the specialist could not get there any way. The hospital rang be at 0900 that morn to tell me which made me laugh as my appointment was for 0830 that morn. Thanks all I feel a bit more relaxed about it now. Minsha let us know how you get on. Best regards.

Hi moogle,

Yes what a relief..the Ebus test was fine..am still a little groggy from the sedation and I asked for lots!! My throats a little sore but other than that it seems fine..the doctor suspects it's Sarcoid bit I will formally get results on Thursday.

Mick63..its gonna be fine ..just tell them you would like as much sedation as possible .. the docs were lovely abs honest. .there is a little bit of coughing up blood after but that normal and try to sleep when you get back ..unlike me !!

Good luck .. what is treatment for sarcoid anyone?
