No sleep!

I'm struggling to sleep at the moment I'm currently on steroids running them down now on 3 a day? Wondering if it's that or part of my condition? Does anyone else not sleep? I was coughing a lot last night but other nights I've just been wide awake..

Thanks x

I know that when I am on syeroids, that I find sleep difficult. I certainly have more energy during the day. X

It's normal Knicho. Most people don't sleep, and some get quite manic - I do a lot of cleaning and house clearing when I'm on them. Box sets are good for getting through the night. Hope it turns around soon, and you WILL get more experienced at recognising when infection is hitting. Take care :)

Thanks.. I think I'm good at burying my head in the sand and need to realise that's not a good idea!

Hi. I don't sleep on steroids only 4hrs a night if that and I will eat anything that's not nailed down !!! When I stop taking them I sleep loads for 4 days then I'm back to normal. They make me really hyper as well. Best wishes xx

I feel great on steroids - for a few days! Then I have no energy or get up and go and feel very tired for a few days afterwards. Love the highs, hate the lows. x

Can't help Knicho - I just don't sleep......steroids or not. I'm used to it - never wait for sleep. I get up and do things that I enjoy.

Thank you ... I thought it was the steroids but as I'm running down expected to sleep a bit more! I'm also eating like a pig! Can't wait to be off them although the breathing and coughing is still awful so I imagine I'm going to end up having even more!

😔

I have the same problem with steroids, I just can't sleep. I listen to audio books, so when I go to bed I plug my earphones in and I will eventually drop off, also if I wake up during the night I just carry on listening.

My advice is don't fight it, just relax and read or listen to music or audio books like me, you've got to take the little buggers and they will give you energy during the day.

Take care x x

Oh dear! Join the club! I've been on steroids for three weeks and sleeping really badly. Am now down to 3 a day like you - can't wait to get off them for sleep reasons but they make my chest feel so much clearer that I also don't want to stop. Maddening, isn't it?

The steroids definitely give me the munchies! My COPD nurse said most people struggle to keep the weight on, not the other way around, so don't beat yourself up about eating your husband's goodies. You'll be back to normal soon enough! xx Moy

When I was on 30mg a day and took them in the morning I was still awake at 4am. I switched to taking them at bedtime and got to sleep reasonably easily. ( I took them a couple of hours later each day until I was taking them at bedtime.) I have been on 5mg for 10+ years and still take the tablet at bedtime.
