Hi anyone having broken sleep due to waking up coughing with phlegm on chest ?
No sleep: Hi anyone having broken sleep... - Lung Conditions C...
No sleep
Yep ... Think its the cold air weather ๐ ๐ข... I find it easier sleeping propped up more - like elephant man ( sorry) thats if i do go to bed ... ๐
Yeah, I have the same problem most nights, although at the moment I seem to be coming down with another infection, 5th or 6th this year! Also, apparently, I suffer with sleep apnoea and am getting a CPAP machine on January 4th, hopefully the infection will be gone by then(lol) and the machine will help me get a decent nights sleep, finger crossed!
Funkybiker I also seem to have a chest infection every 6/8 weeks too ,starts to get you down after a while when all the doctors do is give you more steroids &antibiotics.
Hi, I hope you manage with your cpap machine and mask, I have sleep apnea and when I have a cough I often have to take my mask off as its very difficult to where whilst coughing. Mind, I am a mouth breather and use a full face mask, maybe if you don't have the full mask it might not have the same problems. Good d luck with it anyway xx
I'm afraid that is a way of life for me now.
Yes, for 65 years.
I too have my bed propped up about 6 inches and sleep with 3 big pillows. Mind you I usually roll down the bed at some point in the night!!!!!!
Yes me too. I also sleep propped up.I now try the active breathing cycle to clear my chest before I go to sleep. The coughing is caused by mucus.I find one paracetamol helps me sleep .it dries up the mucus a bit. 2 made the mucus very thick on waking./ I have tried a sleeping tablet that lets me sleep all night but then I find the mucus is thicker and much harder to cough up in the morning but sometimes worth it.The paracetamol sometimes gives me a whole night, but again mucus thicker in the morning. The jakemans menthol throat and chest sweets (60p a packet of 15 ) are the best for me if I have a tickle. I have now begun to cut dairy products which is supposed to cut production of mucus that causes the cough. I think after 2 days I am finding less mucus and more runny.anyone else seen results from this. I tried a mucus thinner from the gp - carbocisteine I think. It worked but after 3 days, all I wanted to do was sleep. So that stopped. I have tried various nasal sprays, mainly antihistamines and they did not seem to help.
I used to be awake every night for at least an hour with the indignity of stress incontinence.
now I rarely have a coughing fit in the middle of the night. I have sarcoid pulmonary fibrosis , for 2 years now. No One has ever shown me how to clear my chest, but last week the physio at the pulmonary rehab went through it. I have watched you tube videos but she was a lot better and I had been doing bits wrong.
I have also tried a neti pot to clear the sinuses before bed. It does help me.
I hope some of that helps. Let us know how you get on.
Hi yes I find a drink of cold water helps try to keep myself propped up in bed. And find fisherman's friends help with the coughing. ๐ข๐ด Majt
I've been finding Fisherman's Friends helpful. I didn't know they still made them until recently. ๐
Hello Don, yes they still make them I can buy them at most chemist's or supermarket's also if you have a home bargain can get them there also. I like to carry them with me as we'll. Good luck Majt ๐๐
Yes I too find fisherman's friends helpful and drinking cold water during the night.๐ด๐
I always take a sip of Buttercup syrup before settling down. I find it does help me and loosens my chest up a bit.
AND You may think it's daft but I have an Aloe Vera plant near my bed , which I think helps me sleep better.
I wake up due to mucus too. I get up and have camomile tea most nights , I sleep propped up but slide down the bed when asleep .
Hello Willanna
I have COP now for 10 years. I have only recently got my head around it and have a plan I run when I get to feeling I have a chest infection. The first sign is waking up in the night having to clear my chest, if I donโt it sounds like a have a wasp in my tubes. I drink water, put my fan on, prop myself up like โelephant โ man, as ljkd2 says! Try not to eat heavily at night as it pushes and squeezes the space for your lung to expand. Iโve also changed to Soya milk and cut out as much cheese as I can without making life not worthwhile! Sometimes I wake having breathed phlegm into my lungs and feel I will never be able to get my breath back, itโs very scary as I get dizzy and feel I will faint! I get scared about eating if on my own in case this happens as I feel safer if someone is around to bang me on my back! Hope you get a plan and get some sleep!
Sonia
