Hi Suzley

suzleyβ€’ in reply toShaurene

Shaurene,

At the moment I only take Ventolin and Spiriva. I am thinking about joining a gym that caters for older people and does milder exercise. This does sound like a very good site, informative and social.

Have you done the breathing test for Spiriva. In New Zealand they will not give you this, only if the test shows 50% or less on lung function. I am on Ventolin and Seretide which I find good. I also take Bromhexine 8mg which thins the mucus down to loosen it from the Bronciil tubes.

Best luck with the jym

Welcome Suzley. It was suspected that I had asthma before officially diagnosed as COPD/ emphysema. With COPD the syptoms and treatment are identical to asthma.

Hi there fellow Aussie. Join the club . I am 81 male and also have emphysema, asthma and anything else that can go wrong with lungs . I was a bad asthmatic as a child and was sent to the country during the war as a precaution and also to help my asthma. It worked only too well as I started to smoke when I was at school . As a natural progression I took it up full time after leaving school and continued to smoke until I was

45. By then of course the damage was done and now I am paying the penalty. Now I am also on ventolin, spiriva and also seretide. If such a thing is possible Suzley I am managing quite well and you will too. I find any exertion starts me off so just take it easy . You are not alone . Hang in there Suzley. Love your dogs too . 😊

Hi Suzley

A warm welcome. I am sure you will love it here. You will find all the help you need with your medical issues & hopefully you will enjoy the fun & banter. It is a very diverse forum with very diverse people & lots of different but interesting opinions. Everybody is kind, even if their opinion differs from yours.

Love your dogs, there are a lot of pet lovers on here. What are their names & ages.

You sound very determined & if your emphysema is mild & you keep up the good work of exercising & eating well you may well not get much or any worse. Try hard to avoid infection & stay away from people with colds as exacerbations do have an adverse affect on COPD (emphysema). Penny xx

Hi Suzley, welcome. aww your little dogs are so cute. I'm just in the early stages of COPD, its taken a while to get a diagnosis for me. At first I was told it was COPD and then no it wasn't. I had my spirometry repeated 2 weeks ago and its definitely COPD apparently more on the emphysema side. They haven't given me any meds yet, on average it takes about 2 years to get my gp to do anything about anything lol. I live in the uk, it would be interesting seeing as we are both in the early stages to see how our treatment differs

So glad you found us Suzley, I've had more info from fellow-sufferers on HU than I ever get from medics. This is not only a very supportive crowd when trouble strikes, we laugh and cry together a lot and discuss lots of hobbies, interests etc - we are not just our disease though we have to take that into account of course. I'm on Spiriva and find it great, also Fostair and an occasional puff of the trusty old Ventolin for COPD and asthma (these days no-one seems sure which we're suffering from)! Lovely dogs - a lot of us are dog & cat mad too. You are heading towards summer of course but tonight the wind is howling and the rain lashing down here in Wales, so a first taste of Autumn. A warm welcome and nice to meet you.
