steroids
Steroids will help inflammation jkboxes and antibiotics for infection. Get well soon. Xxx
Hi jkboxes welcome to the site we all take different types of medication take care x
If you have a chest infection the steroids will reduce the inflammation in your lungs and therefore ease the breathing problems. They will not affect the infection though which will need antibiotics.
Thanks to all who responded. If only doctors had the time to explain things properly there might not be so much anxiety !!!!!
Really that would not have taken long to explain now would it? Something along the lines of: "I am prescribing these antibiotics for the infection and the steroids for the inflammation" that wouldn't really stretch the 10 min appointment time! Could have done that in the time the prescription was printing! Don't forget you can always ask your pharmacist when you pick up the tablets - if it is the first time you have taken steroids I am surprised the pharmacist didn't talk to you about them when they were dispensed. Hope you get better soon.
I have been on steroids for two years for a lung disease
They help to open the airways
I also take a steroid inhaler to help prevent catching ,flu, pneumonia etc
