Hi all. Been on steroids for about 6 weeks now, as well as various anti bios. Now on decreasing dose of prednosilone (spelling???) noticed over the last few days that my face is swelling up quite a lot. From experience can I expect the swelling to go down when I've finished the steroids? Thanks in advance.

Hi Pete, I never took the steroids that long, but I get a very sore gum when I am on it. I take them no longer than a week.

But when I stopped my sore gum stopped got back to normal next 2 days.

And your swollen face is definitely a side effect from the Prednisolone and will pass again. If not speak to your GP 🌹🌹

Yes, it's common to look a little rounder in the face after a course of steroids. But if you stop taking them, it will just go away.

I knew steroids can cause problems with your bones etc but I never thought of your face swelling, I've been on them on and off for three months now, seven doses in all and I've had a sore tongue and swollen hands, I never put it down to steroids but now you have got me thinking. I'm already asking for a bone density test on my next visit to see specialist as I also know they can cause osteoporosis which happened to my late mother in law through them. Honestly you take one to make something better and you end up with another problem or problems. Hope your face goes down soon. Take care. X

Hi Pete

Have been on Pred. For over a year. When I was on very high dose I developed the classic steroid 'moon'face, its now gone down as I've reduced to a maintenance dose.

Best wishes

Cc.

Thanks for that CC. Unexplored territory for me. Guess I'll get used to it!

Hello COPDPete .

The swelling does go down eventually. Coming off steroids can be as hard as going on them at times. If however, the swelling persists even after you've been off awhile, it's best to consult your doctor. Hang in there it will get better.

It should do , steroids have that effect on some people especially over a period of time.Should it continue get to your G.P but if you are reducing it should fade away.
