Good morning & welcome to the forum.

If your Dad has been prescribed nebs, did his GP not give him a Nebuliser to borrow?

I have one from my GP's practice on loan but rarely use it. It's there for me if I feel I need it.

Someone will be on soon who can advise you on what make & model to purchase.

Take care 🌷

I was given one from the hospital years ago. Technically its on loan but when it eventually broke down they replaced it no bother. M

Whilst some GPs are happy to prescribe nebs for nebuliser often you have a buy them. You can get them from chemist or via sites such as Amazon. Mine is from a company called Omeron (think that how it spelt). I would recommend a portable nebuliser. Mine can run on a lead or by batteries and is much easier than traditional lead run only.

Hi

You only need a nebuliser if you GP prescribes the medication used, in the form of a vial.

Not every person will benefit from using one.

Many members use them for different reasons.

Hi I bought my nebuliser from evergreen I have omron electric and omron battery both good but if I had to just buy one it would be electric one more powerful than battery which is alright if want to take in car or out a walk but to me the more powerful the better that is just my opinion so good luck on what you decide I have had mine for nearly five years and never any trouble

Hi I got my two from evergreen ...one is a big plug in and the other a small battery type.

The people in evergreen are very helpful and will advise if you ring or email.

My local chemist sells an Omron model too, but my first nebuliser was on free loan from the local hospital...but it was mains only, so I couldn't travel far then.

I only use mine in emergencies now, so I am aware if my breathing gets worse I need to get medical help.

go to the consultant and ask for it to be prescribed. The NHS provides it and services it annually. If doc won't comply ask to see the pulmonary nurse and be referred to her. she will do the necessary and bring it to your dad's home.

(Why do doctors have to be reminded that they have to provide the wherewithals, if they prescrie a medicine that requires a device to use it?!)

Anyway, hope you get one soon.

I bought one at first, for £148. It gave up after 12 years and the pulmonary nurse replaced it with their own.

To service it, you call the equiplement supplier; the nurse will provide teh number. It's then just a question of exchanging the old for the new. The only thing you might want to buy, and only when you have the nebuliaser is a medicine kit, because the equipment only provides a kit that has to be changed every month. If you are OK with that, that's OK.

Hope you get yours soon,

Mic

Thanks Mic, took your advice and went back to the Consultant. Upshot is Dad now has an appointment with a specialist nurse who will provide the nebuliser and show him how to use it. Thanks again and Merry Christmas
