Mine is provided by the hospital are you sure hospital wont provide one xx
No they won't I ask him today, but he said it might be ab idea to have one when I have an infection. I might ask my doctor.

Maybe that's why they wont provide one if you only use it when you have an infection ,think they only provide if you need too use 4 times a day every day, but maybe i am wrong
You must make sure before buying one that your doctor will prescribe the nebs take care and happy hunting Dorothyxxx
I don't know which is the best one. Maplin do one for £49.99.
maplin.co.uk/p/portable-neb...
I use a Porta-Neb. I was lucky with mine. About £5 from Ebay plus another few quid for postage. It's the same as the one used at my GP's but an older version. It does the job.
Depends too what drug you are planning to nebulise. Antibiotics need a different nebuliser cup than saline or salbutamol.
I think he just meant Salbutamol, because it helped me on Saturday when I couldn't breathe.

hi
i have had many nebulisers and the best most quiet and most effective one i have tried and now use many times a day is a portable one from maplins. its small comes in a carry case and you can also use in car via cig lighter or buy the portable battery if required. i use mine via electric and its brilliant, actually better than the one at the docs,i think. Its between 35 and 45pounds ish. Order online and it comes next day. Hope this helps.
Hi kimmy59,
give us a call on the Helpline 03000 030 555, we have a list of providers in most regions of UK.

Originally, I bought one because at the time, my GP didn't want to provide one, said that Ventolin was just enough and just as efficient.
fortunately, my consutlant provided drugs for the nebuliser. After 12 years, having been serviced lately, it became kaput! The pulmonary nurse took it and replaced it with one of theirs It's a Philips Respironics Porta-neb. I would encourage you to speak to your consultant and your pulmonary team, because these things have to be serviced every year. The team, so far, replaces it every year, so you are sure to have it in working order, with a clean filter. But, due to cuts (!) they only provide the monthly kit. I;m still using an older solid multiple use kit which I disinfect by putting it in a container with water and a dash of detergent in the microwave for 4 minutes. If you are prescribed medicine for it, it would make sense to prescribe this nebuliser. A GP might be reluctant, as he/she would have to pay for it from the surgery funds. That's why it's best to ask the consultant and the pulmonary team who have it funded by the hospital.
Persist in asking. Best of luck.
The Philips resperonics porta neb are good but more expensive than some others. the things you need to consider are the noise levels particulate size and time to dispense. that would be the best way to compare different makes.
sorry also the cost of replacement year packs. face masks and drug containers and filters.
I don't know if you have the Vios nebulizer in the UK as I am in the US. Got it from Walgreens drug store on a prescription. Cost $70 dollars US. It is far superior to the one I had previously. I use it about 3 times a day. Ventolin and other inhalers do almost nothing for me though I use them when I go out. Every time I am in the hospital, I take home the parts that connect to the oxygen for nebulizer treatments. They throw them away anyway. Then I can clean after use with antibacterial dishwashing detergent and let dry and have extra.
The unit has two breathing units to connect to the machine. I also sterilize with one part vinegar with two parts water.
I'm in the UK, I think I'll ring BLF that's if I can get past the receptionist at the doctors they do like to interfere.

I have been supplied with a Philips Porta-neb Nebuliser by:
The Asthma Relief Charity, Swindon, Wilts.
01793 524004
The unit was provided by my local NHS respiratory team but the unit belongs to
the charity and is highly recommended for home use. I usually have 4 nebuliser treatments
per day (mainly at home) but this fluctuates dependent upon how I am feeling.
I also use the Maplin "Polygreen" Nebuliser (£40 ish) which is ideal for outdoors or in the car
which is very quiet and very portable. I find this unit will only hold one shot of fluid at a time
so tends to take slightly longer overall when using of all of my treatments - Salbutamol - Saline
& Iprotropium. This unit needs to be charged with "distilled water" as the ultrasonic medium but
I use saline solution and it works great
