Spiriva Respimat

Good morning,

I'd just like to ask some of you good people that are on Spiriva Respimat if it does any good or not.

Since I have been prescribed it I'm not too sure whether it is beneficial to me or not,as I haven't noticed any difference, maybe got a bit worse.

The Doctor that prescribed it to me said that I must keep taking it for forever.

I have Emphysema, don't know what stage etc. I'm not very clued up on things at the moment as I'm still waiting to go on a rehab course as promised for this month, but not heard anything. So hopefully might get some sort of help and support.

Iv been using Spiriva for 3 weeks and yes for me it's much better than the other powder inhaler I was using before cut down my ventolin use dramatically. But my hubby has had a viral cold which needless to say was passed to me and iv got a chest infection first in 4 years iv started on antibiotics. But we are all different with our conditions and unique in our own way . But it's worked for me hope that helps you some Angie xx

Hi

First thing is to see you are using properly.

There is also Spiriva HandiHaler which may be a better alternative.

I have been using Spiriva HandiHaler for many years no problems.

What I have been told is to take your blue in healer befor any other inhaler. As it opens up your airways. I take blue inhaler first through a spacer then 15 mins later take preventor inhalers I have 2 so take them 15 mins apart. Hope you don't have to long to wait for PR I have been on 3 courses since being dx with COPD in 2006 and found them very helpful.

Thanks Nottobad, I'll try that.

I left a message with the repiratory nurse yesterday and she phoned this morning and has put me down to start PR next Wednesday so things are looking up.

The gentleman I care for had the same concerns/ just stopped taking it for ages but now the nurse has explained clearly that while the Ventolin opens up the airways, the Spiriva works through the day to help keep them open. You won't feel an immediate effect but it is important to keep taking it.

Thank you Elfers that's helpul..

I'm just following Nottobads advice. I have done the Ventolin, next is Seretide, then wait for a bit and then the Spirivo Respimat. Will report back.

Thanks again.

I was put on Spiriva respimat by hospital consultant for my emphysema 2 years ago and have found it very beneficial. It is the only inhaler that doesn't give me terrible muscle cramp. Ventolin creases me up if I take more than one puff for instance. What is a rehab course about though?

Cheers fawhaw. I get bad cramps myself. Especially in my hands and ribcage.

As far as I know rehab courses give you a chance to meet other folk with similar complaints, get guidance and advice from resperatory nurses. And do exercise to help build you up and get a bit fitter. As I've said in an earlier post I start next week, so I'll be able to tell you more.

All the best

You will enjoy rehab it helps a lot in teaching Breathing etc. I myself am on ultribro but I have copd asthma overlap. This medication seems to be good for me . But having said that if I had any doubts that it wasn't helping I would talk to my doctor 👨‍⚕️ about my concerns . Maybe there's other options for you to take. Or maybe you need to give it more time to notice any positive changes. It's your life and have to be able to tell your doctor how you are feeling about the medication that has been prescribed to you .. Goodluck
