Could I have pseudomonas

I have infections on a very regular basis & despite the consultant being suspicious that pseudomonas is present it hasn't shown up in sputum samples .( I am on antibiotics every four to six weeks and have also had I.V treatment . )However he now feels that it is best to be treated for pseudomonas as it may well be there but not showing up in sputum samples .

I am very nervous about starting this treatment without a definite diagnosis of pseudomonas bug as having read up on the side effects etc of the Tobi inhaler I am scared unless it is definitely necessary . Has anyone else had a similar experience or is it common that it doesn't show up in sputum samples .

Many thanks as always .
