Has anyone been treated for lung colonisation by Pseudomonas Putida?
I have mild bronchiectasis and possibly asthma and my consultant asked my GP to send sputum samples off for analysis for 3 consecutive weeks. The first one showed Pseudomonas Putida and the third one showed another bug (can't remember the name) . We agreed with my consultant at the QE in Birmingham not to start my rescue pack of Ciprofloxacin for the Putida as I felt quite well at the time. Now my sputum has increased, I have back pain and feeling a bit unwell so started the Flucloxacillin (penicillin) for the other bug. I have previously cultured Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and also Putida. I can find lots of info on the internet about P Aeruginosa but very little on P Putida.
As there are so many knowledgeable people on this forum I hope that you can give me some of your kind words of wisdom.

Thank you for this - it is similar to the links that I found and they all seem to be very scientific research papers which are way, way above my head! There is quite a lot of info about Pseudomonas Aeruginosa but little it seems about Putida. I think they must be very similar but I just like to have all of the info I can as I feel more in control if I know what I am dealing with.
I would give consultant's sec a ring and ask her to ask con if you should start the cipro. Cipro is effective against other bugs but fluxocyllin will not be effective against any form of pseudo. I know it's hard to tell whether it's the pseudo playing up or the other bug. Best to get her advice.
Thank you Littlepom - I think I will take your advice but I will have to call my GP's first as I can't remember the name of the other bug! I was coming home from seeing my brother when the GP called and couldn't write it down.
It is staphylococcus aureus which should respond to the flucloxacillin ( I hope!)
Is haemophilus something to do with flu?
I took Littlepom’s advice and called the QE but unfortunately my consultant’s secretary isn’t in until Tuesday and the person I spoke to advised me to complete the course of flucloxacillin and call back on Tuesday.
I just hope I get sorted ready for my son’s wedding on 21st September.
Hi, I also have Pseudo but mine is Pseudo Aeruginosa. I was on Cipro twice then Levo & they didn't help. Now I'm inhaling Tobramycin, think it will help since it helped before.
I have had cipro twice too which seemed to help at the time but the pseudo is still there. I am trying to improve my chest clearance and see what the consultant says next week.
Hope the inhaled tobramycin does the trick for you.
