Confused

Just got back from doing a lung function test at the hospital. FEV1 94% and FVC 121%. I thought this sounded quite good but the fev1/fvc % is 65% which is 5% lower than last time (2 months ago) when my FEV1 was 85%. I gave up smoking 5 months ago and I just can't make sense of it. Seeing consultant next week so all will become clear!

I have posted a link that I have found helpful. It explains a lot of what is going on. You do not say what your condition is? I am the Restrictive. I change every day it seems and I am usually at my best when I am tested? But lung function is still 57% upright and 45% flat.

Very good link, Offcut.

Thanks off cut

It's all new but it seems it's obstructive/ COPD. At one point I was being told restrictive/ fibrosis from an xray and after ct scan it showed emphysema and no fibrosis. Go figure?? Happy it's not fibrosis and very glad it seems only mild COPD. Will find out more next week but thanks for the link. Best wishes.

Rozi, Welcome. I'm so glad for you that it isn't fibrosis. kepp the no smoking sign in your house! You will benefit from it. If you can follow another advice, ask your consultant to be referred to the Pulmonary Team nurse. She would tell you all about lung disease and the ins and out of Fev 1 and 2! But she probably would put you on Pulmonary Rehabilitation. That's the golden thing to do. PR, as it's abbreviated, is formed by a group of people affected by lung problems. There's a nurse and a physiotherapist who will monitor you, assess your capabilities and set you to pace with gentle exercise> Exercise si the vital part to improve your health and would retard the development of your illness. Ask for it, highly recommended!

And report here for duty too!!! Cheers, Mic.

Thanks Mic, I will ask for the PR and report back. I have been following posts on here regularly and have learned a lot. Everyone is so kind and knowledgable.
