Hi, my latest spirometry test showed that my fev/fvc ratio had increased by 3% but my fev1 was down by 1%.
Can anyone explain this as I just don't understand how that could happen?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, our FEV1% can vary slightly each time it is tested so don't worry about a 1% difference. I can have 3% difference doing three blows in one day!
Hi warbler, without seeing your full results it's hard to say but I agree with Toci, it can vary by a few % points so isn't significant enough to worry about. If you want a good guide to spirometry, I think this explains it as well as anything patient.info/health/spirome... and has a link to a spiro calculator. I've bookmarked it for reference as it can sometimes get confusing (well it can to me, anyway).
Thank you for your reply, I had a look at the link and it helps a lot, I've also bookmarked it.
Your FVC must have decreased by proportionally more than your FEV1.
1% is considered a 'fluctuation' not really a change. So don't worry too much about it .
fev/fvc ratio shows how much has come out based on what the lung should hold
fev1 is the amount forced out in 1 second Which if 1% not so much to worry about unless you are at 16% or so.
With me having RLD I can blow 110% but I am empty if that makes sense?
